@audedeshayes the BURNID is a combination of the projected x and y coordinates of the centroid of the fire polygon. If I have projected to Albers, which covers the whole of Australia, once we round the x and y values they will be different if they were originally calculated from polygons with a different CRS. They may not be picked up as duplicates.
The BURNID is captured as a character string so doesn't update if you reproject the shape file after it is created.
I'm advocating for a one-size-fits-all CRS as I am sure this thing will be used not just on the Swan Coastal plain (i.e. MGA50).
So to adopt Albers for example, I will need to recreate all the BURNIDs that have already been created. No biggie, but want to understand if that will create further chaos for another process etc.

ok, thank you :). I was confused because the burn shapes are in Albers but they are reprojected after the BURNIDs have been assigned.
