printruler's Issues

Empty output-PDF

1. Start printruler
2. Open a PDF
3. choose 2 pages per sheet and booklet
4. File >> Export as PDF and choose location, filename, hit ok.
5. The destination file first gets bigger and bigger while printruler is
writing to it. Then suddenly, when printruler finished, the file is only 2,2 KB
in size. When opening it appears to be empty.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

-Newest official printruler-version (on august 12th, 2014)
-Porteus-v3.0 (slackware 14.1-based, kernel 3.13.6-porteus x86_64)
-cups-pdf-2.6.1-x86_64-1ab (tried two other versions before: cups-pdf 3.0 beta
and cups-pdf_2.5.0-17ubuntu1~lucid1_amd64 before - no success in all cases)
-psutils_1.17-27
-libpaper1_1.1.24+nmu3_amd64 (needed by psutils)
-poppler_0.26.3 (I've heard installing newest poppler in addition could remove
PDF-trouble - not in my case, unfortunately)
-cups 1.5.4.

Please provide any additional information below.

I looked in the logfiles in /var/log/cups. But there just seem to be no errors.
Cups-pdf itself is printing fine from any other application.
Clicking File >> Print and choosing the cups-pdf-printer in printruler, did
work with cups-pdf 3.0 once and now doesn't work anymore with cups-pdf 2.6.

Not sure if this is important but I found out that

/usr/lib64/cups/filter/ contains the two interesting files pstops and pdftops
which are not from psutils and also not from poppler. Their versions are in
different locations and they are not soft-linked.

pdftops from libpoppler resides in /usr/local/bin
pstops from psutils lives in /usr/bin

The two files in /usr/lib64/cups/filter (and maybe a couple of others in that
folder) are some other "strange" versions which have nothing to to with psutils
and poppler.

installing in x64

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install a x64 Linux flavour (I'm running Ubuntu x64)
2.sudo dpkg -i printruler_20080618-1_i386.deb
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
error processing printruler_20080618-1_i386.deb (--install):
package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)

Please provide any additional information below.

I've tried
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture printruler_20080618-1_i386.deb

and get
dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled:
package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
(Reading database ... 127002 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace printruler 20080618-1 (using

But typing printruler doesn't work.

Integrate as a printer

Hi, it would be really great if this app could be fully integrated into KDE
as a virtual printer. That would ensure great adoption and fame :-) Also it
would make it more easier to use. No need for autostarting it or starting
it manually. It would be just there when you use it.

printruler does not support really big pdf files

For example the file
http://berichte.lufthansa.com/2008/gb/serviceseiten/downloads/files/download.php
?file=gesamt_dlh_gb08.pdf
does not load (it takes a very long time to load and the printruler crashes).

Only A4 source files work

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. add something that is not A4 to printruler
2. print it
3. the output is not correct

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Printruler should be able to handle different paper sizes

individual naming of pdfs

Having printruler as an indidual app causes following problem: If you print
in Firefox as PDF files which originate from the same site, the older files
are overwritten. If printruler would exist as a virtual printer it could
name the files itself and prevent this.

Printruler can only be used by one user at once

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. launch printruler from 2 different users from the same machine
2. the second user can't get any preview images
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Both user should be able to use printruler

To solve this problem, the temporary folder has to be created in a more
dynamic way. QT has a class that does this

Allow collections

integration printruler as a virtual printer would also allow to extend it
with the function of "collections" which can be saved and loaded. A
collection would be a bunch of print jobs which you want to
- print again and modify them when needed
- collect over the time and are not finished yet.
