pom_alternate.xml not Checked In
I cannot find pom_alternate.xml in the proj3 directory as it is listed in the spec
.gitignore
My understanding of .gitignore best practices is that it should only include files specific to the project, rather than the user's development environment (such as editor configuration etc.). While including all common editor and other rules is convenient, it does make the .gitignore feel bloated, as well as introduce an element of magic to what shows up in Git.
