config's Introduction

Target Configuration (config.h) repository

Repository for the storage of config.h files for board settings. For more information please see https://betaflight.com

The config.h replaces the unified target configuration that is now deprecated from version 4.5.0. This frees up some flash space, and ensures defaults are baked into the build. This has been made possible due to the introduction of the cloud build service. Standard default targets are still available, but they require all configuration to be restored from a backup.

Cloud build takes care of the config repository for the general user, and knowledge of it is generally not needed. The instructions here are predominantly for tinkerers and for manufacturers around creating a target.

NOTICE

For a target to be successfully approved it must adhere to both https://betaflight.com/docs/development/manufacturer/requirements-for-submission-of-targets AND https://betaflight.com/docs/development/manufacturer/config-target-guidance.

Pull-Requests for config submission should only be from a custom branch, and not master directly.

How to use - Firmware

The config repository will be used directly by the firmware, and is only required if you wish to use one of the targets present here when building locally.

You need to hydrate the target list first with:

> make configs

Then you can make a build for a specific target configuration e.g.

> make BETAFLIGHTF4

Creating a config.h for a target

TIMER_MAP

The TIMER_MAP define sets up the timers default settings, as adjusted with the timer and dma commands in CLI. The problem is there are some magic numbers (index entries), that need to be known.

You can activate the timer map CLI command (by compiling with USE_TIMER_MAP_PRINT defined i.e. "EXTRA_FLAGS=-DUSE_TIMER_MAP_PRINT").

You will need to setup (again using CLI commands) what your default timer and dma should be. You can then run the timer map command and it will output the correct values for inserting into the config.h file.

config's Issues

Barometer not showing up in 4.5 but shoed up in 4.4.1 - BetaFPV F405 2-3S 20A V1.0 FC - Pavo 20

Describe the bug

FC BetaFPV F405 2-3S 20A V1.0 FC, barometer not showing up in 4.5 but showing up in 4.4.1
Already add custom define BARO_DPS310, set BARO_CS to same pin with 4.4.1, set baro bus type to SPI ( same with 4.4.1 ) but still not showing up.

To Reproduce

Flash with 4.5 using BetaFPVF405 firmware, add BARO_DPS310 in custom define

Expected behavior

I want to have barometer again like 4.4.1

configs/FLYWOOF722PRO/config.h missing B03 timer/dma

Flashed 4.5 dev to FLYWOOF722PRO board and was experiencing dshot errors.
Looks like B03 didn't get its timer/dma mapping when config was created.

I was able to fix the errors by committing the following commands in configurator
timer B03 AF1
dma pin B03 0

CLNE/FREEAXISF4: no RGB LED

Recently I stubbornly bought another one of these FreeAxis F4 25A AIOs since I liked the old one that ended up in the ocean. I still remember it was a little difficult to figure out, and to make things worse, this one came unflashed.

Currently I'm tinkering with the new one to get all peripherals back to work. So far I have

  • the motor outputs
  • the gyro/accel

confirmed working.

Unfortunately the RGB LED is proving a little more difficult.

According to the BF target created last year, it should be on A08. This also coincides with the below pinout someone made for another F411 FC. Using the continuity tester verifies all the red markings (except Sx, I didn't test those) to be true for the FreeAxis board, as well. But so far, the LED is not responding.

STM32F411 pinout

Is it possible I'm missing something very basic?

Onboard ADC does not read voltage on BF4.5 on RushFPV AIO

Describe the bug

Hi. I recently BT4.5 on both BetaFPV toothpeak and RushFPV AIO. The BetaFPV, the onboard ADC were able to detect the battery voltage and current draw correctly. However, even on factory settings, the rushFPV FC does not show any battery voltage and current; they are both zero. Rolling back to 4.4.3, I am able to recover the voltage and current readout, even on factory settings. I have taken a dump of both BF4.4 and 4.5, and I see no change in resource allocation. Onboard ADC is selected on both and resource allocations on both are:

resource ADC_BATT 1 C01
resource ADC_RSSI 1 NONE
resource ADC_CURR 1 C03
resource ADC_EXT 1 NONE

I am able to use ESC sensor to get voltage, but the current readout is zero.

To Reproduce

Flash both BF4.4 and 4.5 on RushFPV AIO and only the former will have power readouts.

Expected behavior

onboard ADC should be able to read voltage settings.

I cannot find RX6 and TX6 pads in the current GEPRC SPAN F722-BT-HD V2 Stack User Manual.

In GEPRC MARK5 DC HD O3 (with GPS mounted and configured by GEPRC ) I had Betaflight 4.3.2 and "diff" output with:

resource SERIAL_TX 6 NONE
resource SERIAL_RX 6 NONE

Applying 4.4/10.9 diff via CLI or loading saved backup via Presets in 4.5/10.10 fails to enable and always disables Serial RX option and OSD option

Describe the bug

When applying a diff taken from a (fully working) quad that is on 4.4, when the FC has been freshly flashed to 4.5, disables the OSD option in the Configuration tab (even though the OSD elements and their positions load correctly once the option is manually enabled again), and also disables Serial RX on the correct UART in the Ports tab. Once this has been manually rectified, reapplying the configuration/diff/backup preset disables the options again, despite not having anything within their text content that specifically performs this disabling (as per a couple members V22 and Vit). This results in the outcome of loading a saved backup not resulting in a usable craft.

To Reproduce

Take a diff of a configuration, or save a backup, from a quad on 4.4 firmware (that has (hd) OSD enabled and one serial rx enabled), flash to latest firmware with full chip erase, and apply the diff/backup.

Expected behavior

all options should transfer over - serial RX should be enabled on the UART that it was, and OSD should be enabled

TMotor Velox F7 SE Motor 3 Problem (DShot)

Describe the bug

I got myself a TMotor Velox F7 SE stack for a new 5 inch build. Unfortunately i found, that any firmware version that i build and flash via the bf configurator, has problems with motor 3. (For some reason i can only build BF 4.5 RC1 and newer. I can't build 4.4.3 myself. Can someone clue me in why?)

With dshot_bidir enabled, motor 3 shows a high error rate, ranging from 5-10% when idle, to 30...40..50% when spinning. Sometimes the motor starts spinning by itself, even when motors are disabled in the configurator. So let's say motor 3 is acting very weirdly.

Once i go back to version 4.4.3 (i can't build it myself, but i got the original hex-file from TMotor) everything works fine again.

I started to dig deeper and compared CLI outputs of 4.5. build with bf-configurator to 4.4.3 shipped by TMotor. Interestingly there are major differences in the way the TIMERS and DMA channels are set up. I have general understanding of how micro-controllers, timers and dma work. That's what gives me the feeling, that something is very wrong here. But i'm not deep enough into BF, to draw the right conclusions and even more, resolve or help to resolve the issue. That's why i'm reaching out, hoping someone is able to help me and everyone else encountering that issue.

Here is what i found:

Resources:

4.5 build in configurator (not working):

resource MOTOR 1 A01
resource MOTOR 2 B00
resource MOTOR 3 B05
resource MOTOR 4 B01
resource MOTOR 5 C08
resource MOTOR 6 C09
resource MOTOR 7 A08
resource MOTOR 8 A09

4.4.3. shipped by TMotor (working):

resource MOTOR 2 B00
resource MOTOR 3 B05
resource MOTOR 4 B01
resource MOTOR 5 A09
resource MOTOR 6 A08
resource MOTOR 7 C09
resource MOTOR 8 C08

While there are differences with motor 5,6,7 and 8 beeing switched, i don't think this has something to do with my issue, since my issue has mainly to do with motor 3 ( B05 ).

Timers:

4.5 build in configurator (not working):

# pin A01: TIM5 CH2 (AF2)

# pin C08: TIM8 CH3 (AF3)
timer B03 AF1
# pin B03: TIM2 CH2 (AF1)
timer A10 AF1
# pin A10: TIM1 CH3 (AF1)

Here i think, we see some problems. In the FW build by the configurator, the timer on B05 related to motor 3 shares TIM0 Ch18 with two other Pins, namely C08 and C09. In my understanding of timers, that makes no sense. In the working factory firmware of TMotor, this is also not the case. Every output has their own timer channel and that firmware is working. It's a similar story with DMA:

DMA:

4.5 build in configurator (not working):

# pin A01: DMA1 Stream 4 Channel 6
dma pin B00 0
# pin B00: DMA1 Stream 7 Channel 5
dma pin B05 0
dma pin B01 0
# pin B01: DMA1 Stream 2 Channel 5
dma pin C08 0
dma pin C09 0
dma pin A08 0
# pin A08: DMA2 Stream 6 Channel 0
dma pin A09 0
# pin A09: DMA2 Stream 6 Channel 0
dma pin B03 0
# pin B03: DMA1 Stream 6 Channel 3
dma pin A10 0
# pin A10: DMA2 Stream 6 Channel 0

4.4.3. shipped by TMotor (working):

# pin A01: DMA1 Stream 4 Channel 6
dma pin B00 0
# pin B00: DMA1 Stream 7 Channel 5
dma pin B05 0
# pin B05: DMA1 Stream 5 Channel 5
dma pin B01 0
# pin B01: DMA1 Stream 2 Channel 5
dma pin A09 0
# pin A09: DMA2 Stream 6 Channel 0
dma pin A08 0
# pin A08: DMA2 Stream 6 Channel 0
dma pin C09 0
# pin C09: DMA2 Stream 7 Channel 7
dma pin C08 0
# pin C08: DMA2 Stream 2 Channel 0
dma pin B03 0
# pin B03: DMA1 Stream 6 Channel 3
dma pin A10 0
# pin A10: DMA2 Stream 6 Channel 0

Pin B05 related to the problematic motor 3 has no dma channel assigned in the configurator-built firmware. However it's assigned to a dma channel in the working factory firmware by TMotor.

Is it correct to assume, that he config.h file for the TMOTOR VELOX F7 SE is simply wrong? Or am i missing something here?

For a full comparison of the configs:
4.5 Build in configurator (not working): "ea8963bb-7f82-4a86-82e9-9265ed3b15b3"
4.4.3 by TMotor (working): "d57fae43-4542-431a-a12a-c5dacef14ec4"

I would love to help to bring things in working order for me and everyone else using this FC. But i currently don't know what i need to do, to find out the correct configuration and propose a corresponding change to the config file. I hope you guys can point me into the right direction.

Regards

To Reproduce

  1. Use BF configurator to build and flash any version of BF to TMotor Velox F7 SE.
  2. Enable DSHOT 600
  3. Enable bidirectional dshot
  4. Try to spin up Motors

Expected behavior

Motors spinning with telemetry working and a near zero error rate.

FLYWOOF7DUAL Target missing 2 Motor Outputs

Describe the bug

I had to replace my Flywoo Goku F7 FC (Target: FLYWOOF7DUAL).
For the replacement i have choosen the exact same FC again.

This is the FC/Stack:
https://flywoo.net/products/goku-f7-pro-v2-50a-bls-30x30-stack-mpu6000-

Both have Pins for Motors 1-8 and are clearly marketed as having 8 Motor Outputs.

My old/first FC had 8 usable Motor Outputs in Betaflight.
The new one only shows 6 when entering "resource" in the CLI.

To Reproduce

Connect the old FC to Betaflight, open CLI and enter "resource"
Connect the new FC to Betaflight, open CLI and enter "resource"

compare results.

PS: i did NOT flash the old FC within like ~1-2 Months. it is running Betaflight 4.4.3
I did though try re-flashing the new fc with 4.4.3, as well as 4.4.5 and i tried both multiple times, allways with the same result.

Expected behavior

Both FC should have 8 usable motor outputs since they are flashed using the same target and are literally the same hardware.
