Project abstract

Recent studies have shown that exposure to lead has impacts on the digestive system, especially on the microbiota, causing an imbalance of intestinal bacteria and resulting in aggravations in intestinal permeability and inflammation, energy capture and lipid metabolism. Our hypothesis is that acute lead exposure causes an imbalance in redox status and changes in the diversity and composition of intestinal bacteria and in the profile of fatty acids produced, negatively impacting health.
