Using Nuxtober on a project with an existing theme

Hello!
Sorry for the noobish question.
@bskimball

My team and I want are currently moving to vue/nuxt as a frontend framework to work alongside octobercms but we already have a default theme that we are using.
That theme includes every default folder that october "reads" (layouts, assets, pages, etc) and since we want to do this conversion by steps, we are separating the public pages (home, about) from the login and dashboard pages (after the authentication).
All in all, we want the public pages to be in .vue for now as a test and keep everything else as is (in regular .htm with twig, php, laravel).

Now, my question is: what are the steps to use this Nuxtober theme with an existing one? As we run "npm run generate" we want to use the dist/ folder with our current theme so that we can see both .vue and .htm pages.
