After many years (and after trying roughly every image viewer in MacUpdate), Sequential is still my one and only image viewer for everything (images, comics, PDF docs). Even with the odd bug here and there (probably introduced with the latest OS Xs) and, quite understandable since Sequential is no longer being updated, it can't be beaten.

Just want to thank you, Ben, for developing Sequential and offering it to the Mac community.

Can it view just files in the same folder, without recursing into subfolders?

If I have file structure like this:

1.jpg
2.jpg
4.jpg
3 (folder): abc.jpg, def.jpg

then while i navigate through the pictures it shows them to me in the following order:

1.jpg
2.jpg
3/abc.jpg
3/def.jpg
4.jpg

while the intented behaviour is:

1.jpg
2.jpg
4.jpg

(or at least 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 4.jpg, then everything else)

Can it do such a thing?

Show two files/pages side by side

Hey, I love Sequential! Still a wonderful way of reading CBR comic files on my laptop, and with a retina macbook the experience is better than ever! (on my old MacBook the low resolution made it uncomfortable to show a full page in the limited vertical space).

Anyway, the one thing I wish is that I could show two pages of a comic side-by-side as I read. On a MacBook showing just one page is a pretty big waste of screen-space, and comics were intended to be read with two pages showing at once after all.

This app has done great at not breaking so if anyone is listening thanks! Just wanted to drop my feature request in case you're bored and looking for new ideas :)

EXIF data is incomplete and shows the wrong date times

I tried using Sequential in the hope that it would order photos by the date taken in the EXIF data rather than the useless date created on disk option that Preview uses but it seems not.

What's more is that the EXIF data is missing a lot of fields and does not even have the "correct" date times. It shows the Date Created from the file system rather than the Date Time Original and Date Time Digitized.

No thumbnails on Big Sur

I install Sequential via Homebrew and am using the latest version, I think. (It's 2.1.2 .)

On Big Sur, no thumbnails are displayed. "View" > "Show Thumbnails" shifts the main image rightward but the thumbnail pane doesn't show up. "Hide Thumbnails" shifts the image back.

On a new mac mini with Big Sur preinstalled, Sequential has been like this from the beginning. On an old MacBook Pro with Catalina, thumbnails were displayed, but since I upgraded it to Big Sur, the thumbnails has been gone.

Issue when trying to open an image file using Sequential as the default app

I've setup Sequential as the default .JPG file opener, and if I double click on a .JPG file, Sequential keeps loading forever.

feature request: automatically go to next collection

it would be nice if at the end of a collection sequential could move to the next one, i.e. open the next cbr if the name can be detected (e.g. what mplayerx does).

Sequential doesn't support .webm file format

When I try to look at .webm files in Sequential, they don't work or display. The .webm video file format is now increasingly replacing the .gif file format on popular sites such as Reddit now, so the lack of .webm format support is now becoming quite inconvenient.

I understand this is quite an old project, but Sequential is still a great tool. How hard would it be to add .webm support to Sequential?

Sequential will not open an image in the Download folder

Move (or download) any image file into the user's Download folder. Double click on the image (Sequential is the default app for image file extensions), Sequential becomes the active app, and may beachball momentarily, then nothing.

Move the file to any other folder, double click (or CMD down-arrow) on it, and it will open.

Using CMD-O in the Sequential File menu has exactly the same behavior.

Keyboard shortcuts do not trigger the correct action on an azerty keyboard

Hey there,

there seems to be an issue with the way Sequential handles keyboard shortcuts on azerty: shortcuts seem to be bound to the key's position, not to the character that's entered.

For example:

• Pressing ⌘ + , does not open Preferences, it minimizes the window instead (like ⌘ + M), because on azerty , is where m is on a qwerty layout.
• A quits Sequential (A is placed where Q is on a qwerty layout)

This issue does not affect all keyboard shortcuts (for example ⌘ + Maj + A works fine). I tried to look at the code in PGDocumentController.m, #L647 but my knowledge of Obj-C is very limited.

File opens too long if big folder is present on same level

Steps to reproduce:

1. Put few images to desktop (or any another folder)
2. Put big folder or smilink to big folder near. For example i have link to documents folder on my desktop (10k+ photos in subtree)
3. Open one of images in Sequential

Expected result:

• File opened in few seconds

Actual result:

• I see waiting cursor for minutes and have to kill Sequential

Sequential does not support RAR 5.0

Sequential handles RAR archives lower than 5.0 (ie, with filetype 52 61 72 21 1A 07 00),
but it fails for RAR 5.0+ (filetype 52 61 72 21 1A 07 01 00).
