The topic attribute "GUID" is always mandatory (in BCFv1 and also in BCFv2) as you will find it in markup.xsd. There is an element called "RelatedTopic" which is optional but if exist its GUID is also mandatory. In the BCF-API the "RelatedTopic" is a resource node and do not exist in topic, json but has its own RelatedTopic.json

from bcf-xml.

I believe I can clarify. If you navigate to [https://github.com/BuildingSMART/BCF/tree/master/Documentation#topic], you will notice that the GUID is documented as Optional = Yes. The issue is that the Readme.md does not match the XSD.

from bcf-xml.
