🌱 About Cannabis Data

Cannabis Data is an incubator for projects which serve the fresh flowering of humanity's relationships with the plant Cannabis and its many cultivars (medical, CBD, adult-use, and hemp).

Getting Started

You can clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/cannabisdata/cannabisdata.git

And then install all of the dependencies:

pip install -r requirements.txt
npm install

You're then off to the races! The contributing and publishing guides can help you with more details on how to develop and publish the Cannabis Data dashboard. Once setup, you can run the dashboard locally with:

npm run dashboard:start

Stage the dashboard:

npm run dashboard:stage

And publish the dashboard:

npm run dashboard:publish

You now have a simple, yet complex, dashboard designed specifically to analyze large-scale cannabis data, that will automatically scale to handle your demands. You can now populate your Cannabis Data dashboard and analyze your data to your heart's content!

cannapy's Issues

Normalize dataset column names

Take the opportunity in the abstraction layer to normalize column names.

e.g., the WSLCB compliance checks dataset uses city_name and county_name whereas the more canonical licensed businesses dataset uses city and county.

Validate specified dataset_ids are valid

Currently, users provide a string dataset ID to functions in WSLCBPortal. Validate the string matches a supported dataset ID. Raise an exception if not.

Consider other approaches that don't enable so much flexibility...

Use the postal-address module

Implement physical address attributes/properties using Scaleway's postal-address module.

Retrieve Washington open data portal dataset last update timestamp

Enable the retrieval of the metadata last update timestamp from particular datasets on the Washington state Socrata-based open data portal. Use the sodapy library for interfacing to the Socrata API. Enable name-based retrieval of the datasets (encapsulate the Socrata identifier, recognizing that this may entail upkeep). And transform the Unix-epoch timestamp into a Python datetime value.

The primary use case here is checking to see if more recent data is available without pulling down the entire dataset or having to execute multiple lines of code.
