ama's Issues

Podcasting, Video and Streaming Gear

It’s been a while since I have set up a studio specifically around audio and video recording. For context, I plan on creating both audio, video and streaming content. I was wondering if you could tackle this question from a few different angles.

Audio Only

I'd like to improve my audio on virtual meetings and meetups as well as improve my setup beyond the integrated camera and mic that comes with my computer. Before one gets into streaming and video production I'm thinking they can start with basic audio-related upgrades.

I'm assuming a basic budget for audio-only would be in the several hundred dollars and less than five hundred dollar range

Video Recording

I'd like to know beyond the audio basics above, what can I add to my setup (hardware and software-wise) to help me create online video content. I'm wanting to expand my online content to YouTube and Vimeo in particular.

I'm assuming a basic budget of a few hundred dollars more could help me get into video and basic streaming. As well what do I now need to think about as far as cameras and lighting

Record and Stream Like a Pro

We all know that with the stuff above we can now do other things like streaming as well, but I'm sure there is some upgrades I can do once I get established that will up the quality of my audio/video recording and potentially give me a better quality for streaming on Twitch and Mixer.

I'm thinking controllers, premium lighting, interfaces, plugins, upgrading my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and or video production software.

We could potentially have a limited vs unlimited budget answer here?

Thank You

I think it's amazing that people like you are doing these AMA's. We have so much to learn from those of you who have been doing this for years and could potentially help us skip some of the headache and heartbreak associated with trial and error. I ask you these questions because I think that the React Podcast is very polished and high quality and I highly respect your opinion.

Can you wax lyrical on style in programming?

Coming from a photography background, there is much emphasis put on an individual's style.

To what degree can a unique style be expressed in a line of code, and in your opinion, what makes for good style (or poor).

Hugs.

A better webcam?

How deep have you gone down the “DSLR or equivalent with clean HDMI out as web cam” rabbit hole?

If you were doing a fresh setup today, what camera, microphone, and dongles would you buy?
