suffragist's Introduction

Suffragist

A one-file Sinatra voting app that would fit in a gist, suitable for teaching Ruby web-development basics.

Setup

Clone this repository and run bundle or just gem install sinatra, the sole dependency.

Start the application with ruby suffragist.rb.

Visit localhost:4567 to cast your first vote.

If you want to have automatic app reloading when you edit the file you can gem install rerun and start the application with rerun suffragist.rb instead.

Tutorial

Please see TUTORIAL.md for the tutorial that can be used with this app.

suggestions including guide in Rails Girls curriculum?

I plan to include this guide in the Rails Girls curriculum as an introductory guide to Ruby and Sinatra. To do so I plan to change the topic of the vote to food items. Imagine a group of friends is figuring out what they are ordering for their weekly movie watching marathon:

Choices = {
  'ham' => 'Hamburger',
  'piz' => 'Pizza',
  'cur' => 'Curry',
  'noo' => 'Noodles',
}

Are there any suggestions / experiences from running this guide by beginner coders that I can implement when I am changing it a bit anyway?
