theatreassessment's Introduction

Local Theatre Group

This project was carried out as part of a College Assessment. The assessment aim was to provide an introduction to .NET / MVC / Entity Framework.

Below is an outline of the project brief

Local Theatre Project Brief

You have been hired to develop the website of The Local Theatre' company. The site should provide a welcome page, contact information and have a micro-blog style page that allows the company to make announcements, provide movie and performance reviews and disseminate other related information to their customer base. The company wishes to allow registered users to be able to comment on announcements. Moderation features must exist so inappropriate comments can be removed.

Whilst the website needs to maintain compatibility with popular legacy and contemporary desktop browsers used by their customer base, they also recognize the trends in computer sales. Due to the significant rise in mobile and tablet use, and the need to reach out to a younger audience, the company requires that you follow a responsive design approach developing interfaces suitable for a range of touchscreen phone, tablet and traditional pointer driven desktop computers. Following discussions and client interviews you have made the following briefing notes.

  • The company needs to be able to suspend users to prevent them from posting new messages in case of a misuse of the comments system.
  • The system will need multiple administrators to personalise posts from different staff members. An existing administrator will be able to 'promote' a registered user to having administration rights.
  • In case of typing mistakes and retractions, blog articles posted need to be able to be edited and deleted. Deletes should cascade and also delete any comments made on those articles.
  • User’s registration details need to be editable in case of corrections in order to comply with contemporary legislation.
  • Internally the company uses an up-to-date open source browser.
  • The design should be lightweight and complement the provided branding.

You will agree a scope (functional and non-functional requirements) with the client (the lecturer) and prepare proposal documentation. You will create and produce the design documentation and prototype site with an appropriate test plan and test log within an agreed timescale.
