ZIP: 'Could not extract the file "directory/.DS_Store"'

Without an archive that exhibits the problem there is not much I can do. It 
sounds
kind of strange, I've unpacked lots of archvies is .DS_Store files with no 
problems.
What is the exact error message? Does it work if you just click "Skip"?

I understand that it's difficult to debug without an example, but here are a 
couple of screenshots. The second 
one appears after "Continue"ing from the first error, hitting Continue again 
cancels the expansion.
Is there any way I can log the program's activity for examination?

EDIT: Note that this is a different error than was appearing the first time, 
but with the same archive.

Are you entirely sure you are not running out of disk space, or don't have write
rights to that directory, or something similar? Can you write other files 
there, or
create folders?

I always leave a few gigabytes free on my startup volume, and I was 
uncompressing to my Desktop, which I 
certainly have write privs. for.
