Hello there, I'm Bryan 👋

I am a product manager, developer, and designer; seriously I studied computer science, started my career as a designer and now combine all that into my product management work.

I've been a tinkerer my whole life, I'm obsessed with how things work. My first computer was a Tandy Sensation which I hacked away at to make it play the latest games. My second computer I built by myself from parts. I grew up taking things apart, putting them back together and asking endless "why questions". Why is this this way? Why can't it be this way? This curiosity is my super power, I don't stop asking why until I understand things. I love the how and why of things.

I've worked on the Linux Kernel, GNOME Desktop, client side applications (Thunderbird and Firefox) as well as cloud based services (Mozilla Services, GitHub, Timescale) and am looking forward to learning even more.

I view my product work as a craft and am constantly trying to improve my processes and output. Happy to connect with others who want to talk about product process, technology, oh and cycling 🚴

Show a faded histograph of visits along the bottom of the box

Embed Soundcloud sounds

Expand and minimize individual items

Makes for an interesting grouping opportunity for different pages of the same site..

Expanded view for youtube links should embed the video

Show a cookie icon if there are cookies stored for the page shown

Show day stats on the left side

It'd be nice to see some summary stats under the day, something like:

Add ability to indicate what mode I'm in so I can filter results better later

If I can indicate that I am in a work mode, then the history list could be grouped that way and it would help me find links that I found while in a meeting, at work, or home.

It should be possible to select multiple items quickly and open them all in tabs

It'd like to be able to quickly easy grab a chunk of history and open those tabs.

Make it more clear which pages on for secure pages

Clear page metadata when history items are removed

Store geolocation when site was last visted

It'd be helpful if I could filter my history by my geolocation, since I know if I did the search at Home or when I was in Portlandia.

It should be possible to subscribe to link feeds

I'd like to be able to subscribe to bookmark feeds from say from delicious.

Localize about:history

Somehow indicate how many pages in the history link to the displayed page

It'd be nice to see how many pages in my history link to the pages listed in about:history

So if I see that one result has 5 results linking to it and the others only have 1 it might stand out, and should.

Indicate how much time was spent on the page

It'd be nice if the pages I spent more time on, actively using the tab, were easier to find than the pages that I spent less time on. If I saw the latter was true then I'd be more likely to consider deleting the page and clean my results.

Define microformat for sites to define their own embed information and improve about:history

Same idea as all of the other embed bugs except this way would mean we do less customization, there are other tradeoffs though, like security (if we use iframes) and performance (too many embeds being used for pages that don't matter as much)

remember searches and use them for suggestions

Show the Tweet content for twitter post urls

Detect and display trends

Setup Travis

Integrate with Read it later

or whatever we call it

Use Gist embed for gist.github.com pages

Separate the metadata collection from main.js

There should be a about:history image search mode

I'd like to be able to search about:history for the images that I've seen while browsing.

If Gmail was used to discover the link, then provide link to that email

We'd have to integrate a bit with gmail to store the link tho, so yuck.

Show bookmarked items

Write tests for metadata/database

Show posting date if available

Separate database code from main.js

Add extra links for Github repo pages

If the url is for a github repo then it'd be nice if there where extra buttons/links displayed for the top level important items like wiki, graphs, network, issues

Provide Graphs

some graphs like https://github.com/clarkbw/about-history/graphs/ would be cool

Overwrite the commands that open the old history view

So 'History -> Show All History' should open about:history for example

I'd like to be able to add notes to history items

Maybe the note would be a quote, or a summary that I make myself.

Offer "re-search using *this engine*" for search result pages

...will explain more in person tomorrow if unclear

Embed Google Map for google map urls

show a screen shot over the image on the left when hovering it

Indicate if the history item came from mobile device or desktop

filtering on this would be useful too

use and show bookmark tags in the search

Paginate based on date instead of infinite scroll

Store the search terms and engine used to find a page in history

If I did a duckduckgo search for "Vancouver sushi" and I found a restaurant with this search then it'd be nice to see "found with a duckduckgo.com search for 'Vancouver sushi'"

Make the metadata extendable

Other add-ons should be able to extend the metadata for results.

separating the metadata database broke the metadata feature

I'll fix this one.

If the page is for a thing that is being sold then show the price clearly

If there isn't a microformat for prices already then lets make one, and hack it for amazon asap ;)

Indicate if the page is open in a tab already

Make it possible to delete history

Make the result list displayed extendable
