ip2019's Issues

feedback

I'll just post here the feedback you just gave me, so we have it in the most obvious place.

heterogeneity

  • 17 people enrolled
  • always an issue, class is split 50/50
  • lost 4 people along the way
  • content felt too hard for half the class, too easy for the rest
  • We must focus on the bottom 50%. They are the core target of this course, the rest will be fine in any case (that is, they can develop their skills further alone, which they seem to be able to do, or in the comp econ course)

course schedule

  • 5 session on terminal
  • 6 sessions on R
  • take home exam

terminal can be hard going in the beginning, hence maybe start with R to soften the initial blow?

potential improvements/ additional materials

  • Grant mc dermott has amazing material online. I have fork of his course here. particularly the first 3 lectures (linked at bottom) could be amazing to use
  • we should re-focus his material (too advanced), but this may be a nice way to start. the ggplot2 showoff in the end of slides 1 is exactly what we want I think.
  • we should think about deploying all material as he does as html slides. it's easy enough, you write all in Rmd, hit the knit button in rstudio and deploy on something like https://raw.githack.com, just as Grant does.
  • Marketing: how could we communicate to students that this is a very valuable course for them? send an email before they choose with this picture in it?
