libsquirrel and libsqstdlib cannot be linked with shared libraries

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Write a small program using Squirrel and meant to be compiled as a shared 
library, e.g a plug-in for a bigger program.
2. Try to compile it as a shared object, if using GCC/G++ use -lsquirrel to 
make sure it is linked with Squirrel.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The compilation and linking should work. I see:
/usr/bin/ld: 
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/4.6.1/../../../../lib/libsquirrel.a(sqapi.
o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.rodata.str1.8' can not be used when making 
a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/4.6.1/../../../../lib/libsquirrel.a: 
could not read symbols: Bad value

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Squirrel 3.0.0-3 on Arch Linux x86_64 (the following AUR package: 
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=44377 ).

Please provide any additional information below.
Squirrel should provide either shared versions of these libraries or compile 
the static versions with -fPIC flag to resolve this.

googlecode falsly advertises availability of SVN repository

Please either commit the squirrel sourcecode into Google code's SVN repository 
or change the settings of the project so that there is no documentation about 
the unused source code repository.

Need Squirrel in binaries along with source code

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. It is not a good idea to execute by self when using eclipse
2. as I don't have gcc or mingw.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Ready to use binary not available for windows xp.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows xp 32-bit, eclipse 3.7, Android SDK latest.

Please provide any additional information below.
Please provide ready to use executable would help much to use it directly with 
out installing other software just to compile.
