Code for All Website

Code for All is a network of civic technology groups across the world.

Goals

There a few goals with this website:

  1. Show the collected activites of the Code for All network.
  2. Promote the work of the Code for All partners.
  3. Host tools needed by the network.
  4. Attract people to the Code for All network

Development

This site is built with HTML, CSS, Javascript. It runs on jekyll and is hosted by GitHub Pages.

  1. Create a fork of this project
  2. Clone the fork to your computer
  3. cd codeforall.org into the directory
  4. Install Ruby (we recommend version 2.5.3) and bundler (gem install bundler)
  5. Run bundle install
  6. run jekyll serve . from the root of the project
  7. Open the site at http://localhost:4000
  8. You can now manipulate the files and refresh your browser to see the results
  9. When finished, commit your changes and push them to your fork
  10. Create a pull request

Resources

The data about the Code for All groups is pulled from the Code for America API. The work on that project is happening under the cfapi repository.

Submitting an Issue

We use the GitHub issue tracker to track bugs and features. If you're not used to that, here's a quick video intro.

Before submitting a bug report or feature request, check to make sure it hasn't already been submitted. You can indicate support for an existing issue by voting it up. When submitting a bug report, please include a Gist that includes a stack trace and any details that may be necessary to reproduce the bug.

Fixxx methodology

"Fixxx" method (fast innovation Amsterdam, a design thinking + lean startup + agile development method), we start with 2 weeks discovery (documenting people, process, products), then 2 weeks ideation (generating a lot of minimum viable solutions), and only then start iterative prototyping/agile development 'in situ' (in the actual process context); we do all steps with the full team (designer + coders + product strategist + scrum master). We use a model in which there is a go-no go at the end of each phase and each sprint

Ciudadania Inteligente as new affiliate

Make a PR that includes:

  • Add your organization to https://github.com/Code-for-All/codeforall.org/blob/gh-pages/_data/organizations.json using tags Code for All and Code for All Affiliate
  • Put your logo under /assets/images/partner logos/<your-organization-name-slug>.jpg. If you choose png or other format please use logo_url attribute in organizations.json to specify absolute path (like above) to logo. Example: /assets/images/partner logos/code-for-france.png
  • Add your country to _data/countries.json

Remove section in the Home Page

Code for All Home Page currently contains the following sections:
-About us (image and text)
-Learn how we work
-Our partners (map)
-Our supporters
-What we had been up to
-Footer

Remove section "Our supporters".

Edit world map

Please edit the world map so that the Crimean Peninsula is not coupled with Russia

Blank website

Click on any menu item on top. When page loads click on the same menu item again. The content will be moved and the top will be blank.

Code for Hungary as new affiliate

Make a PR that includes:

  • Add your organization to https://github.com/Code-for-All/codeforall.org/blob/gh-pages/_data/organizations.json using tags Code for All and Code for All Affiliate
