reusefull's Introduction

reusefull

https://reusefull.org/ is a website that connects people with stuff they no longer need with nonprofit organizations that could use it.

Problem Statement

Many people have excess stuff that could still be put to good use but don't know what organizations might accept it. Nonprofit organizations need to stretch their budgets, but people have to know about the organizations in order to check their website or social media to learn about what types of in-kind donations an organization might need. Nonprofits often get in-kind donations they don't need or have issues with storing large amounts of donations they do need.

Stakeholders

  • People who donate unneeded household items
  • Nonprofit organizations that accept in-kind donations
  • Organizations that serve nonprofits, such as Nonprofit Connect and United Way

reusefull's Issues

Add tagline above top menu

In the space above the top menu and below the Search box, add, "Connecting people with stuff to organizations that need it"

Force SSL

Change .htaccess file to force secure version of the site

Look into SSL cert for site

We can look into this with the hosting service. And I'd be more than happy to take this on if I get login creds with whatever web host we are using.

Front-end design

See reusefull.org for current site. Basic navigation and pages are defined. File containing content will be added soon, including blog posts. Priorities are Home, Get Stuff, including org profile form, and Give Stuff pages.

Compile list of development staff

Compile a list of people who serve in a resource development/fundraising capacity at their nonprofit organization. You can find a directory of nonprofits to start from at npconnect.org.

Add checkbox for New Items Only

For those organizations that accept only new items, we need a "New Items Only" checkbox. The search logic will likely be affected, but I'm not sure how at this time. Will update this issue once that's figured out.

Css Style Guide

CSS Style Guide

1. Introduction

To keep the CSS code written for the project consistent and maintainable, we provide CSS guidelines to follow during implementation and maintenance.
The aim of these guidelines is to speed up development, make it easy for new developers to start working on the project, keep the code as it was written by a single developer, keep files short and readable.

See #2 for workflow of the front-end design.

Schedule focus group for donors

We will need 5-7 people who give in-kind donations. We will include something in the Code for KC newsletter once a date is set.

Add textbox with guidance on giving

On the "Give Stuff" page, add a textbox with the following content:

If you have torn or worn out clothing, never fear! Find a place for it here.

(Separate issue will be created for new page that lists orgs that accept torn and worn out clothing. We'll have to compile a list. Add link from "here.")

Add blog posts

Draft blog posts are on the github page. Need to be edited for content and clarity

Add a Cash Donations Only checkbox

We should add a Cash Donations Only checkbox for orgs that don't accept in-kind donations of any sort. They would appear in search results if potential donor selects the population they serve. If this checkbox is selected when the org fills out their profile, the link for cash donations field should be required.

Add checkbox for faith-based organization

Add a checkbox for organizations to indicate they are a faith-based organization and enable people to include or exclude faith-based organizations in searches (default to checked).

Add New Items Only Checkbox

We should add a New Items Only checkbox that will refer people to the org's Amazon Wishlist. If it's checked, the Amazon Wishlist field should be required. The org should come up in searches where people check the population it serves. (Example: Org indicates in profile they serve children. Potential donor selects children in their search. Org comes up in their search results.)

Add “Other” checkbox

To capture the unique needs of orgs, let’s add an “Other” checkbox that requires the user to enter their unique need. Then we can allow donors to select to see the “Other” needs somehow. I’m open to how that would look and work best.

Email org users for one-off items

Enable system to send an email to all org users to notify them of a one-off item availability. This email will need to be approved by an administrator.
