Hi @haines. I agree, the dependencies are a bit strict. However, we have it like that for now while we're pre-1.0 just because we don't want to accidentally break users when upgrading since protobuf-es is a bit fluid now with APIs and such.
That being said, we are actually nearing a v1.0 release for protobuf-es, at which time we'll relax the peer dependencies a bit. In related news, I will be publishing a release of connect-web today, which should fix this issue also. Apologies for the inconvenience.
