My initial experiment was functional, but the trace feels distant from the gesture as you're doing it. The trace should be much more tightly coupled to your actual finger movement, so that it feels like you are drawing on the screen.
We need to do some kind of smoothing so the user's exact (shaky) movement is not noticeable, and capture the intention of their movement. I'm sure there are precedents I can look to for design inspiration. Might be a bit too challenging for the beta though.
