VPNTV Hardware Requirements Guide

VPNTV supports different kinds of wifi and ethernet bridging options for variety Raspberry Pi boards and hats. All of them are described below.

Ethernet to WiFi bridge

Prefferable setup. Connecting TV to VPNTV's new WiFi network while VPNTV connected to your home router by Ethernet cable.

Hardware requirements:

WiFi to WiFi bridge.

Full Wireless solution, no wires allowed :) Connecting TV to VPNTV's new WiFi network while VPNTV itself connected to your home WiFi network.

wireless connection type 2

Hardware requirements:

  • Raspberry Pi Zero W or Raspberry Pi Zero W2 board, all with 512Mb RAM minimum.

  • Or Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi CM4 and CM4 I/O Board or Raspberry Pi 3 board, all with 1Gb RAM minimum.

  • 8Gb SD Card

    You can run vpntv on CM4 board with 4Gb eMMC EEPROM chip as well.

  • USB WiFi Adapter (as second, AP WiFi Interface). Be sure your adapter supports AP Mode in RaspiOS.

    Note: You can use adapters compatible with builtin 8188eus vpntv driver. In this case set wifi_mod_enable: true in config.yml before running installation playbook.

WiFi to Ethernet bridge

Connecting TV over Ethernet to VPNTV's Ethernet port, while VPNTV itself connected to your home WiFi network.
