Getting Started

Prerequisites

What things you need to install the software and how to install them

uBlock Origin / Pi-hole

or any other Software/addon which support 3rd-party blocklists

Installing

Download & Install

For Browser:
uBlock Origin: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/#installation

or

For Selfhosted Devices
Pi-hole: https://pi-hole.net/

And add a list of your choice to your Software/addon

Running the tests

Once you installed your Software successfully and added a blocklist of your choice just go to a URL which should be blocked. You should see a warning or the website could not be reached message. If its the case then you added the blocklist successfully and your Software is working.

mi.edgekey.net, edgekey.net is a false positive

edgekey.net is a domain that is owned and used by Akamai that is primarily used for website acceleration through the Akamai CDN. Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) put website content on servers that are spread throughout the world.

its also a CNAME for several sites such as miamiherald.com.

*.whatsapp is invalid

This is the output of my gravity output log. *.whatsapp is invalid therefore it wont be used.

Q about entry

Hello,
First, thank you for your hard work and I really appreciate your dedication. I checked with reddit and was advised to ask here directly. My question is in regards to why snopes.com is blocked, due to CNAME as it appears on my query list. Is snopes now associated to questionable third parties or does the website itself have questionable practices?
I was going to whitelist it for the article I was trying to read, but I figured you have better insight on this decision. Thank you for considering.

Instagram is not blocked

i have used Instagram blocklist
but it is not working

Wildcard Root Domain (www, etc?)

None of these blocklists have root wildcard domain blocking. So for example, www tiktok.com still works, but tiktok.com doesn't. Same for youtube, facebook, etc. I've verified this with the latest Pi-Hole and pfBlockerNG.

I'm not sure if this is intentional, but for those of us using these blocklists, adding a .rootdomain.com to the blocklist will accomplish root domain blocking. e.g. .tiktok.com or .youtube.com.

You can do this in Pi-Hole via Group Management -> Domains -> RegEx filter:

In pfBlockerNG you can add custom domains under the DNSBL List. Just make sure to add it as a regular expression (RegEx) like .tiktok.com or .youtube.com. The "." is a wildcard and the most important.

Note: If this is in fact an oversight, I'd be happy to submit a PR to fix it. Please just let me know @d43m0nhLInt3r and thank you for your hard work compiling these lists.

Can you make the snapchat and tiktok lists in a format compatible with pfblockerng? I have pfblockerng pulling your lists but its having hard time reading them. I THINK its because of the leading IP address and the expression at the bottom part of the tiktok file. I THINK pfblockerng likes a simple list of hosts one per line...but apparently it CAN read different formats...but for whatever reason, its having a hard time reading this format.

Pi-Hole blocks facebook completely

Commit 2173c5d blocks YOUTUBE completely - not only ads on youtube

Commit 2173c5d does not only block ads from youtube - it disables youtube completely as my family told me (no youtube since xmas until I found time to have a deeper look today :-(
Sorry, but this makes your "youtube ads blocker" total unusable, because this was shooting beyond the target.
Please fix/revert this.

This disables music completely

One of the domains on the Facebook block list is breaking Instagram. I'd assume it's probably 0.0.0.0 instagram.c10r.facebook.com

There are a few entries on the TikTok list that blocks legit Apple content and doesn't seem to be used by the app:

It seems you a lot of patches related to tiktok open which aren't accepted. If this list isn't maintained perhaps it should be github-archived. (Or open up to other maintainers -- happy to help out).
