When I change the device name of my flash drive also changes, so path to the repo becomes invalid.
The sign in function of GitHubDesktopPortable is no longer signing in.
Was going to use this for school work but the fact that the program requires admin privileges is a bit disappointing. Is there a way to ensure that admin privileges are not required?
The new UI is terrible, bad at diffs, no horizontal comparison graph.
Looking for a download of the classic version, preferably portable, but I'll take what I can get.
the project has been stopped?
Aren't portable apps completely stand-alone? IOW, they don't store or automatically read configuration information from outside their own directories? That's not to say they can't see files outside their confines, or even optionally import settings.
If by default, a portable app stays within it's boundaries, then it should be possible to one instance of a portable app on one flash drive and another instance of the same portable app on a second flash drive. That is certainly the assumption many users of portable apps have. They should be able to open the app on a computer where someone else previously opened another instance of the app without interference between the two. Of course, if you can have them on different flash drives, you should likewise be able to have two instances of the same portable app side by side. They don't extend beyond their directory borders, right?
Maybe you wouldn't be able to run both instances at the same time, but you should be able to close one and open the other (with completely different settings) and neither would know about the other.
If all that is true, then this isn't portable. I need to be able to use GitHubDesktop under two different accounts. I thought this "portable" app would resolve that problem. However, while I can create two instances of GitHubDesktop, if I sign into one, then close it and open the other, it immediately signs me in as the first account. They are cross-talking.
Thus, if I put this GitHubDesktop Portable on a flash drive and try to use it on a computer where another user has already done the same, I will get their GitHub profile. That's not good! Also, not portable!!
Downloaded .paf file and after installation, running the application brings up a log in
Attempting to log in, it stalls, and continues to "sign-in" and nothing happens
This project contains a trojan!
Don't trust it!! If you do a virus scan, it will be immediatly found!

Hi!
Is it possible to have a 32bit version of the executable?
I am trying to run this on a machine which is not very new (runs Win 7 32bits) and additionally I don't have admin rights, so GitHubDesktopPortable
was my best option although it didn't work.
Thanks!

I just found out about this portable version of GithubDesktop after looking for a portable option at the official version. After using it, I've discovered an error in its execution.
Most portable apps from PortableApps.com launch AppNamePortable.exe, which moves files, directories, and registry entries around. It then runs AppName.exe. When AppName.exe closes, AppNamePortable.exe brings the files, directories, etc. back.
What I've noticed (and I hope is an easy fix) is that GithubDesktopPortable.exe runs, moves files and directories, launches GithubDesktop.exe, and then closes. It shouldn't close, and I think this may be related to the problem that #10 was describing.
Is there a way to ensure that GithubDesktopPortable.exe stays open and cleans up the directories/registry when GithubDesktop.exe closes? I would try to modify it myself, but I'm not sure what needs to be changed.
