Simple maps of California's 58 counties

Usage

• In the browser using d3 and SVG

Data dictionary

The output directory contains a topojson file for each of the state's 58 counties. The files are named using the county's FIPS code and contain three layers:

• county: The outline of the county
• roads: Major roads in the county
• places: All Census-defined places in the county, along with their population.

Sources

The following data sources are stored in the input directory:

• County shapes from the U.S. Census Bureau
• Roads from Natural Earth
• Places from the U.S. Census Bureau via Census Reporter

Installation

The mapshaper utility is required to run this repository. Install it.

Clear out all the built files.

make clean

Run the make command that regenerates all the files in the output folder.

Where does acs2018_5yr_B01003_16000US0637134.geojson come from?

It looks like a census population thing, but I'm not too sure where to find it.

Context is that I'm trying to make a similar atlas for all states, but since this file only has California data, I'm not sure how to make something similar for other states.
