Command line script to mutes the default input device on Mac OS

Run this command to toggle the muted state of the default input device. Useful with Karabiner or in an Automator Service to assign a system-wide hotkey. Great for Skype, Hangouts, or other video conferencing tool. You know, because nobody wants to hear you type, cough, sneeze, or emit violent outbursts due to project scope creep ;-)

audio is muted in addition to microphone

I'm using hammerspoon MicMute, which I believe uses this module behind the scene.

I'm using Logitech USB Headset for both output and input audio source
when muted the audio is muted as well :(

I want to mute the microphone when I cough during a (video conf) meeting, but I don't want to loose the audio.
