apmz's Introduction

Hi there ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm David Justice, a Principal Software Engineer Lead in Microsoft's Azure Container Upstream team. I lead teams focused on high performance Kubernetes cloud infrastructure, super itty bitty micro-virtual machines, and WebAssembly. I'm an active community member in both the Bytecode Alliance and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation where I work to bridge Wasm and Kubernetes. In my spare time, you will likely find me hacking here or working on Go for DevOps.

apmz's Issues

apmz trace_info doesn't work

What I did:

apmz trace --api-keys MY-API-KEY-HERE -l 1 -n wibble -t foobar=wibble

What I expected:
Search for "wibble" in Application Insights transaction search will produce results according to the above command.

What I got:
No results

Am I looking in the wrong place? Do I have a mistaken impression of what this tool does? Does it actually work?

I have a bunch of shell scripts which I'd like to instrument with Azure Insights and I had understood this tool could simply be dropped in to do so. However it doesn't work according to the documentation (see issue #14) and even having found other ways to invoke it I can't see any results in the Azure Portal. Help please?

eval $(apmz bash ...) doesn't work

bash-5.1$ eval $( ~/go/bin/apmz bash )
Warning: apmz event collection is enabled, but --api-keys is not specified. You must override the __APP_INSIGHTS_KEY env var or events will not be set to Application Insights on script exit.
bash-5.1$ eval $( ~/go/bin/apmz bash --api-keys MY-API-KEY-WENT-HERE )
bash-5.1$ trace_info foo
bash: trace_info: command not found
