It uses Brightness Temperatures from onboard radiometers, mean and covariance matrices as apriori data and estimates atmospheric variables such as Near Surface wind speed over the ocean. It uses Baesian estimation (Rodgers 2000) as implemented by M. Maahn (pyOptimalEstimation) and accelerated by M. Echeverri (pyOptimalEstimation/jacobianTest).
