I just looked at the disc that was provided, and everything on it is AX3 related, I think they may have sent me an AX3 by mistake (or the guy ordering it got mixed up, I'll have a check). There's no indication on the device as to what model it is other than a number (17-17256) so I can't be sure.
It would certainly explain why the WAX9 bootloader utility crashes, I just checked with the AX3 one and it loads it up fine.

Closing issue, Axivity sent me the wrong device, new one sent out today.
