That's something you update in your settings, e.g. https://SHORTNAME.disqus.com/admin/settings/community/

I have changed all 3 of them on my site and its not updating its still saying comments after the number.
its actually not updating at all its saying 1 comment even when i have 4 comments below and yes they run off the same shortname and config

@The-Code-Monkey Did you resolve the issue? Mine keeps the 'comments' string as well after changing the settings. Maybe it has something to do with the info being cached somewhere?
