bible-atlas's Issues

Use the Map Icons Collection for placemarks

Use icons from the Map Icons Collection for the KML placemarks.

Consider placemark attributes for the following:

  • Places mentioned in a book, e.g., Jesus of Galilee, Paul from Tarsus
  • Places traveled to in a book, e.g., places along Paul's missionary journey(s)

Suffixes:

"Root" means the location that's used for the Latitude and Longitude.
">" means the location surrounds the given point: Greece >Athens.
"<" means the location is inside the given city: Gate of the Guard <Jerusalem.
"~" means the location is approximate.

Offscreen place labels come into view

The labels for off-screen placemarks pop into view when you zoom in. The problem is exacerbated when you tilt the globe while zoomed in. These invalid labels remain fixed to the screen when you pan globe, i.e., they don't move in sync with the terrain.

The following three screenshots depict the issue. The first screenshot is a normal zoomed out view without any (known) issues. The second is zoomed-in on the same location showing a few valid placemarks and labels and many invalid labels. The third is zoomed in further and is populated entirely with invalid labels.

Screenshot 1: OK

Screenshot 2: Bad. Some valid placemarks, many invalid labels

Screenshot 3: Bad. All invalid labels.
