So this is something that can be tracked by the statistics module. Furthermore, the advanced forum module will then automatically include the number of views for each of the pages. Not sure which of the above methods that it uses, but I went ahead and turned the module on. If you go into a forum you will see the number of views for each of the posts, although they are all 0 right now.
What we need to figure out is how to display this information on the front page, and if we even should? Furthermore, I don't think people actually go into the forum, they just use that view block, so maybe we should step back and consider something completely different?

Weird: I tried this same thing on my local site last night, and instead of showing the view count, it just messed up all the fonts (I'm guessing it was dumping some junk in the head tag), and I didn't have time to dig into it.
I don't think this needs to be on the front page, and indeed, this might be just fine for Jim's purposes. I think he's just trying to get a sense of whether a topic is lacking input due to indifference, or due to lack of eyes on it.

So I put this in a couple months ago, never closed the issue, but view numbers are now showing up.
