Client stuck on "Checking for OpenGL"

I'm assuming your jar isn't u[dated. This looks like a nice project.

JVM Crashes On XWindow Disposal with OpenGL Graphics

The JVM crashes in a fatal error when all the XWindows are disposed and an OpenGL instance has been created at least once.

Item System - Player Inventory GUI

The item system's graphical user interface for showing the local player's inventory.

Word wrapping lag

The current real time word wrapping eats frames like a cookie monster eats cookies. Convert this to a cache based wrapping style that caches each textual line and pixel offset.

Tile Attributes

Right now the tile attribute system makes it impossible to attach additional data to the tile, such as warp targets. This will most likely be implemented in a way similar to the Packet system.

Combat System - Player vs NPC Combat

Add support for players to attack living entities. Since players are also living entities, this should also support the case of a player's death.

Item System - Item Definitions

Item definition support on both the client and server, with synchronization packets in place.

Combat System - Timed Combat & Last Attacker Disposal

Make combat based on timers, so the attack speed of both the client and server are equalized.
Fix the issue that causes entities to attack their last attacker's entity ID number, even if it's not the same entity.

Item System - Player Inventory

Player inventory incorporated into the accounts database, and also with synchronization to the client.

Server's Javadoc

Finish up the server project's javadoc and review all the code.

Combat System - Living Entities

The living entity implementation, with health synchronization between client and server. This should also support a maximum health value in the entity definitions.

Combat System - NPC Retaliation

This update should add support for NPCs retaliating to combat initiated by players.
