CopyCarrierwaveFile

Simple gem for copying CarrierWave files between resources. It's solving issues with local and remote storage discussed here

Installation

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'copy_carrierwave_file'

And then execute:

$ bundle

Usage

You can use service class directly:

original_resource = User.last
new_resource      = User.new

CopyCarrierwaveFile::CopyFileService.new(original_resource, new_resource, :avatar).set_file
  # :avatar represents mount point (field)

new_resource.save

or you can include CopyCarrierwaveFile module and call copy_carrierwave_file :

class Document
  include CopyCarrierwaveFile
  mount_uploader :content_file, MyUploader

  def duplicate_file(original)
    copy_carrierwave_file(original, self, :content_file)
    self.save!
  end
end

document = Document.new
document.duplicate_file(Document.last)

Functionality is the same

copy_carrierwave_file's Issues

Image doesn't copy physically in directory

Hi, I am trying to replicate the image from one record to another record. I have used amoeba gem to make duplicate of the record. I have used your gem to copy the carrierwave uploaded image to the duplicated record. But it just assign the name and file path to the duplicated record and doesn't copy the actual image physically in the directory.

I am using local storage to store the images, as i am trying it on development for now. In my carrierwave config file i am using:

config.storage = :file
config.cache_dir = "uploads/tmp"
config.fog_directory = ENV["AWS_BUCKET"] # required
config.fog_public = false # optional, defaults to true
config.fog_attributes = { 'Cache-Control' => "max-age=#{365.day.to_i}" } # optional, defaults to {}
config.storage = :fog

And in my model i am using:

CopyCarrierwaveFile::CopyFileService.new(self, eap, :eap_image).set_file

Can you please look into this issue. Thanks

Rename file name issues

@equivalent Hi,
I trying to rename the duplicated file:

class Attachment < ActiveRecord::Base
mount_uploader :attachment, AttachmentUploader
belongs_to :attachmentable, polymorphic: true
include CopyCarrierwaveFile
def duplicate_file(original)
copy_carrierwave_file(original, self, :attachment)
self.save!
end
end

class AttachmentUploader < CarrierWave::Uploader::Base
def filename
"#{model.attachmentable.name}-REV##{model.attachmentable.ver}-SN##{model.attachmentable.doc.sn}.#{file.extension}".to_s.underscore
end
end

But the result is that the file is saved in the old name and in the new DB name.

support array of uploaders

Carriewave supports a list of resources as uploaders e.g. mount_uploaders :images, SomeUploader
I need to move several separated uploader attributes to a new attribute defined as a list

  mount_uploader :icon, IconUploader
  mount_uploader :foo_icon, FooIconUploader
  mount_uploader :bar_icon, BarIconUploader
  mount_uploaders :icons, ImageUploader

...

# want to copy all diff. icons to the new list, something like
icons << icon
icons << foo_icon
icons << bar_icon
