Fetching metadata from online sources

Well, since Alexandra is now excellent as it is and since we're spoiled by its elegance and features [:)], I can't help asking the obvious:

Is fetching metadata from online sources in your todo list or is it against your design principles (bloating code or something) or a big hassle to implement?

This would make Alexandra indestructable! Then again if it's not worth your effort, it's excellent as it is and we're grateful for your fine work.

Advance search in simple search as well

would be a fine convenience, that is, to be able to filter by any keyword/tag available in advance search.

Improved alexandra

Hello alexandra Team,

I'm Geiger David and I'm part of the Mageia packager Team. I think that the alexandra software is very attractive and I'd like to import this one on Mageia repositories and maintain it.
I've built and successfully tested it on a local machine.

By cons before imported it on Mageia, I propose you to improve a bit the alexandra package part:

1. Can you create a desktop file for linux package (rpm/deb)?
2. Can you provide an alexandra icon of png and/or svg format? (min. 256x256px)
3. Can you create a French translation file that I can translate it?
4. Can you create a Make_install part that all files are automatically installed during build?
5. Can you create a tarball with current version (.tar.gz and .zip) into Release section from your github project?

For make_install should be:

• /usr/bin/alexandra
• /usr/share/applications/alexandra.desktop
• /usr/share/icons/alexandra.png or /usr/share/icons/hicolor/NxN/apps/alexandra.png (N=px)
• /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/alexandra.svg

Screenwriter and Composer tags

would be appreciated as the former is the most crucial component of a (good) movie as some great directors/writers (Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Mel Brooks…) have mentioned.

And with some movies the composer is as much crucial as the director: Morricone, Rota, Badalamenti, Herrmann…

Set language on a combobox

missing build dependencies for Debian package

You don't have any build dependencies in debian/control.

After a first check I'm missing at least build-essential, qtbase5-dev and libmediainfo-dev.

Grid view of embedded DVD covers

You may already have thought about it, but a grid view of embedded DVD covers (like iTunes or Vlc) would be very very fine as it's a great convenience to have visual clue while browsing a media library.

Please see the attached file which shows my library in Vlc. I've ripped my DVDs to mkv and embedded DVD covers. Vlc is fine, but this feature of it is an after thought and a bit shaky. Besides such an implementation in your otherwise fine software would make it possible to use any other player (mpv etc.) as well as making Alexandra unique.

Impossible to mark as "view" several lines

Hi,
I imported some files in my library, and I would set as "Vew" more one line.
I select 3 lines, and I click on the "View" button ✔️
But, only the last selected marked as View.

Audio as well?

Hi Eugene,

If it's not unpractical or against your principles, adding audio as well would be very fine.

There's a very brilliant (qt5) audio player, Cantata (an mpd client), with very fine library and playlist management and very elegant and logical interface like Alexandra (screenshot below). Yet being an mpd client, it suffers from mpd's glitches now and then, that is, all of a sudden, after some obscure package update mpd stops working. Apart from Cantata, the only real alternative is another qt5 player, Yarock having mpv as its audio engine, but it's not as elegant as Cantata. Besides, there's no complete audio-video player/manager let alone a brilliant one combining Alexandra and Cantata.

Freeze of alexandra when only one video in the list and clicking on "Random" button

Hi Eugene,

If you have only one video file in the list and you click on the "Random" button, alexandra freezes immediately and you can't no more do anything, just kill the program.

Theme/Style issue

Hi again…

A minor issue:

When I choose Default in Style dropdown menu Alexandra doesn't obey my default system-wide qt5 style/theme which I set (in my Fluxbox system) by a very fine utility, qt5ct (a qt5 config tool like the old qt4-config, but a better one).

I've got this line in my ~/.bashrc to use my system-wide qt5 theme configured by qt5ct:

'export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct'

On another note, in Alexandra's Style dropdown menu all those styles are qt4 styles, not qt5 ones and they're not set if I choose one of them. My qt5 styles (fusion, qtcurve, kvantum etc.) aren't listed there.

RFE - add column with video length

Let me thank you for a nice, user friendly (simple) and useful piece of software in the first place! Star given:)

I'm missing one important information in the list - the length of the video/movie. Would it be possible to add it in the future? Ideally taken right from the file, because at least in case of movies, there could be various versions (director's cut, extended edition, ...) and I believe it would be also easier to implement. In my opinion, it should be also stored in the database to have this information available even when the data storage with file is not connected at the moment.

No posters

With the latest version and new database no posters any more; won't load posters.

No grabber working

Built 1.5.0 today on Arch, currently it seems no grabber is working, IMDB says "movie not found" and OMDB says "authentification required", only the first grabber whose name is cyrillic gives something.

Unable To Add Cover Photos From Library.

I am unable to add cover photos. Clicking on "Open" button doesn't do anything.

System : ArchLinux
Plasma 5
GCC 5.2.0
QT 5.5.0

No warning during compilation, all went smooth.

Option to disable splash

as it takes some time to get rid of it and see the real thing, the app itself.
