404-bookmarks's Issues

make it possible to edit a bookmark

Sometimes it is only a minor issue in the url that makes it fail, so it would be nice if it was possible to edit the url from 404-bookmarks.

[feature] Show folder structure and allow deleting whole folders to make things easier with many bookmars

Hi!

I have thousands of bookmarks. It's a lot harder to make judgmends without seeing where they are

Besides, it might be that I'll end up with empty orphaned bookmarks since this addon doesn't have the option to delete empty folders.
Also, in some cases it might be that a whole folder is pointless because of all age, even if not all links are dead, so allowing me to delete it would be even more helpful. (I think whis would require, showing alive bookmarks as well.)

PS: why not show the number of "expired bookmarks"?
I happened on a page with a 403 error code that load normally within the browser.

Conflict with FireFTP

Version 1.1 has an issue with FireFTP. After clicking the "404 Bookmarks" icon the new html page opens for a second then it changes to the FireFTP inferface (chrome://fireftp/content/fireftp.xul). After closing that that tab the GET request are still sending in the background.

If I hit back it does go back to the 404 Bookmarks html, but then immediately goes to FireFTP.

Very nice extension - just a couple things...

I've been hoping to find an extension like this for a long time. Thank you !!

A couple things:

  1. The icon (green puzzle piece, maybe there is a better choice?) is so big! It makes my toolbar twice as tall to adjust for it, dwarfing the other add-on icons and taking up screen space unnecessarily.

But it least the addon does not need restart after enable or disable, so I just enable it to use, then disable it to get my screen space back.

  1. Sort the list by the error code. Then I could see all this 404 together which are almost all bad links, Ignore most "(TypeError: NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource." which are almost all good, and learn about the other error codes by using the extension more.

not installing!!!

Hello there @evilpie
Extension is stuck at installing..using FF 49 32 bit windows 8.1.pro x64 ..tried saving the xpi file 404_bookmarks-1.0-an+fx.xpi but still does not work...? I noticed there is no install.rdf file inside the extension...? in about:addons page it shows downloading which cannot be cancelled....can i generate any log file to give more feedback?
Only way I could install addon was to temporarily load addon from about:debugging even then it did

not work(icon appeared on toolbar but did not show anything
Best Regards
(tested on clean ff profile as well with no luck) :(

The "429" Errors are actually being caused by this Add-On

As can easily be found from a Google search, an "HTTP Error 429 is an HTTP response status code that indicates the client application has surpassed its rate limit, or number of requests they can send in a given period of time" (from https://blog.hubspot.com/website/http-error-429). In other words, these errors are being triggered by the large number of rapid-fire HTTP requests that are used to verify the validity of bookmarked links. Furthermore, certain sites appear to be much more sensitive to this issue than others, such as Google and the family of Stack Exchange websites. If there were a way to moderate the rapidity of the HTTP requests to not trigger the 429 errors, or having a way to tell the Add-On to ignore those errors, the output would include far fewer questionable links and wouldn't send users on a wild goose chase trying to figure out why otherwise valid links are generating errors.
