fableconf's Issues

Call for Presentations

Hi Fablers!

As you (should) know, Fable community is gathering for the first time in the amazing city of Bordeaux on Sept 22 for FableConf. We are very busy securing the important things: a venue, the food, 🧀 and 🍷 ... but someone also mentioned we should have some talks to honor the conf part in the name, and that's why we're opening (drums...) the ACfAP! 🎉

ACfAP: Awesome Call for Awesome Presentations

At the moment we have 3 slots open for 45-min talks and 4 for 15-min length talks. Obviously we are looking for talks focused on Fable, but this can be also in combination with other F# or non-F# technologies. Also, we're very interested in practical talks ideally with impressive examples of Fable in action, not only targeting the web, but also mobile platforms (React Native, Fuse), desktop (Electron), Cloud or IoT. And we'd like to have not only apps, but also see how Fable can make games, interact with Sonic Pi for live music and any other crazy idea crossing your head right now ;)

We are using Github for the CfP (sorry, I mean ACfAP) so proposals are public and you can have a better idea of what's already covered. To submit a proposal, just send a PR to this repo with a markdown document to the cfp folder containing:

  • Title
  • Duration: 45 or 15 minutes
  • Abstract
  • Bio

Example

And now the caveat...

Speakers will get the ticket (including the food, cheese, wine, etc.) to the conference for free. However, we are still a small community and have a limited budget for the conference so unfortunately we don't know how much we can help speakers with travel costs until we see how many tickets are sold. For this reason, we cannot guarantee that we'll be able to cover flights or hotels as of now 😕 But if you bring many friends with you and we can sell out we will!

All the great ideas here!

June - meetup

In order to prepare Bordeaux for the arrival of FableConf and present F# to the crowds, @josselinauguste proposed that we make a pre-FableConf.

So after some discussion, here are the first details:

  • it should happen in Bordeaux in June (end of month)
  • it will be hosted by Bordeaux Functional Meetup whose organizer, @nsteenv, has kindly offered his help regarding the organization.
  • the date will be confirmed by the end of May

Sponsors

The event will be hosted under the umbrella F# foundation which help us with the promotion and other logistics. cc @mathias-brandewinder @ReedCopsey

It'd be great if we can have other sponsors to help us with the venue and lunch. Please add a comment with any ideas you may have.

Talk recording

Speakers (Friday): @MangelMaxime @evelinag @selketjah @vbfox @theimowski @Zaid-Ajaj @Krzysztof-Cieslak @jfellien @Dzoukr @rommsen @dersia

Organizers: @whitetigle @isaacabraham @forki @alfonsogarciacaro

AV Expert: @fergusmeiklejohn

We're planning to record the talks on Friday and it'll be great if we could record also the computer screens, so it'll be very helpful if you could make sure you're able to record your screen. You can use any app you like but on macOS quicktime should be enough and with Windows 10 apparently you can use Windows+G to open the Game Bar which also offers screen recording.

If you've read this comment and you know how to record your screen, it'll be very helpful if you could add a 👍 to this comment. If you've questions, please add them below.

Speaker Hotel / Compensation

Hi there,
I am currently planning my travels an I wanted to ask if there is a designated speaker hotel in which we all should book our stay. In my experience it is much nicer, when all the people share a hotel and are not scattered around the city (especially in a big city like Berlin).

On this regard I also wanted to know if there are any plans to compensate for travel/accomodations?

Regards,

Roman

FableConf is coming!

fableiscoming

@et1975 @whitetigle @Krzysztof-Cieslak @MangelMaxime @xtuc @Indy9000 Hi everybody! I know you've been having that feeling for some days now, like a little tickling you may have not identified. Yes, it's FableConf approaching! 😄 I'm just opening this issue to make it easier for you to ask questions and also to make last announcements for speakers 👍

Really looking forward to see you all there!

Video of talks

It'll be very important to record the talks so other people can see them after the event. We'll try to ask the venue if they have such a service available but in last case we can use our own devices. I've got decent results using a camera and a wired mic to a phone, then matching the sound and image later with a video editor.

We may also consider the possibility of streaming the event.

Website

We need a website and EventBrite asap to start selling tickets and get a better estimation of how many people would be interested to come. Probably a single page would be enough, maybe using SinglePaged. Ideas?

Using the gh-pages in this repo means we can use the fable.io/fableconf URL which is nice :)

Hi there! At the beginning I asked speakers not to register for the dinner on Friday, but some already have and it's better if we know exactly who will be attending, so if you haven't already, could you please register? Sorry for the confusion!
