women-tech-speakers-organizers's Issues

Instructions for adding speaker/organizer info using "edit this page" on GitHub directly.

Hi @jlooper ! If you'd like, I'd be happy to contribute to the contributing document with instructions for adding an entry to the README via editing the page on GitHub directly.

I maintain similar kinds of instructions for the open source project I maintain and also in a guide on my personal site for contributors to our documentation site where often people are just making very small content edits. Often, just doing this in the browser is sufficient for those kinds of changes, especially when people aren't necessarily looking to maintain a fork (and, that's in fact how I made my own PR last night).

If you're not interested, no worries; just close this issue! Just offering!

JSDayIE is lookiong for speakers!

Hi, I hope you don't mind me opening this issue... I just want to try to reach some of the people in this repo.

JSDayIE is the first JavaScript conference in Ireland and will take place in 2019, on September 20th at The Round Room at the Mansion House in Dawson Street, Dublin.

JSDayIE 2019 is a 1-day single-track tech conference dedicated to the JavaScript community in Ireland featuring over 450 attendees and some of the best JavaScript professionals and organizations.

You can learn more about JSDayIE at https://www.jsday.org

Our call for proposal is open for one more week. Please send your proposal at https://www.jsday.org/cfp_details

Alphabetize list

Alphabetize list - seems like we need this now since the list is growing

Require consent or direct opt-in

I'm a big fan of this repository and its intentions, but it was brought to my attention that women can be added to the list without their consent. I suggest that we require direct opt-in or written consent (by for example email), as lists like this one are often used for targeted harassment and we generally want to encourage a consent-first practice.

I'm one of the directors on the .NET Foundation board of directors and involved with the outreach and diversity action group, and we would love to be able to recommend this site as a place to find female mentors, speakers and more- but we also want to be careful with recommending lists where the people on the list have not opted in or consented to be added.

I understand that it can be difficult to gather consent after the fact (but it is doable), but maybe at least we can start by requiring that a new person has consented or opted-in.

This would also help following the GDPR and similar directives and laws regarding data collection, privacy and managing data to avoid future issues and encourage good practices.

Fantastic work, and what an incredible list of amazing people!

speakerinnen.org

... posting this as an issue instead of PR since I am not sure where to put it:

speakerinnen.org provides a large list of female speakers covering diverse topics (mostly Europe / Germany): https://speakerinnen.org/

Add more women speakers to README

We are have a good list of women speakers but we could always use some more. If you are interested in contributing, please submit a PR.

If you are new to this repository, please read through our Code of Conduct and Contributing guide first.

This issue will stay open for multiple contributors and will not be assigned to anyone.

Clarification about Getting Started

Hi!

Thank you for creating this incredible resource. :)

Just looking for some clarification about the Getting Started category that I couldn't find in the documentation.

Is this category for people who are new to the industry in terms of career and open to opportunities, mentoring, other. Or who may or may not be new to the industry but are new to the speaking/organising space who want to get involved/experience?

Thanks!

Re-organization

Would you be interested in having the data split out into separate files and folders to make it a bit easier to sort and view just the areas you are looking for? For instance, having a speaker directory with a US file and a Canada file, etc.? I'm happy to do the restructuring, but wanted to know if this was of interest to you first.
