3do-ode-firmware's Issues

[Feature Request] Use A to select folder and launch games

Having a separate button (A) for Select vs Launch game (C ) is very confusing. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve added a game to queue instead of launching it. Multi-disc games on 3DO are the exception not the rule. A better and more consistent user experience would be using A to select and launch games and making C the add to queue button.

Incorrect firmware version displayed

3DO model: FZ-1-E
ODE HW: FZ-1 ODE

At first, it displays V.1.0.0. Loading a game and returning to the ODE menu via the open/close button, the system returns with a different version such as V 1.0.2, V 1.0.3, V 1.0.5 and so on.

Feature Request - Pal optimisation

Hi there, thanks so much for the amazing hardware and supporting PAL users!

I use the Xport ODE on a CRT tv. Menu loads and is perfectly usable, however the overscan means the edges of boxes (and maybe some text) runs off the top/bottom/sides of the screen.

Please could you consider for a future release, a way to change display from NTSC to PAL? Or a pal specific boot iso?

Thanks so much for your time.

Chris

Suggestion - Not issue - Installation location

Hello,

I have been playing with my new ODE for a week now and have come to the view that (Unless Fixel has some suggestion as to why this shouldnt be done) the suggested installation location for the ODE may not be the easiest/best one if looking for a stock appearance.

The suggested location is perfectly suitable, but requires the loss of the entire CD assembly and of course the front facia, necessitating either gluing it to the front of the chassis or using a 3D printed replacement.

I have found that a more stock appearance can be obtained by leaving the entire CD assembly as it is, feeding the ribbon cables up the back and simply placing the ODE on top of the back of the CD tray. This also means you dont need to find a place to store the CD assembly if you wish to keep it, it just stays where it is.

There is sufficient height available that the only item which needs to be removed is the RF shielding. A small hole could be cut in that to allow the USB port to pop through if needed.

Just a suggestion. May be that others have also gone this route, perhaps might be worth adding to the installation instructions as an option.

[Feature Request] Custom Wallpapers

As discussed earlier on the 3DO server. Akin to how the FXPak Pro supports this on SFC/SNES, it would be nice to be able to set a custom wallpaper without needing to decompile/recompile BOOT.ISO (which I haven't actually been able to get working myself). Custom banner screens would be nice too.

Game crash: Oyaji Hunter Mahjong

Ran into a bit of a doozy. The short version is that it crashes upon loading the last stage of the game (and a few harder to reproduce locations). On emulator, it fails to load a certain image correctly, but still proceeds with the game after. The original disc on console works as expected.

To reproduce:

  • On the title screen, do not press start. Enter Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Down, Left, Right, L, R, B, C, B to reach the level select.
  • Scroll down to Stage 5 and press A.
  • After the loading screen with the star ratings on the right side (see below screenshot), the ODE crashes and resets. On Phoenix, the next image fails to load, but results in NOW LOADING appearing a second time over the previous image.

How the crash looks on Phoenix with the extra loading:

Here's the in-game image telling you the level select code in case it's easier to see that way:

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions either here or over in the 3DO discord. Thanks!

[Feature Request] Add alphabetical folder/file sorting

The 3DO game library isn’t very large so I can’t imagine that adding alphabetical folder/file sorting would cause any significant performance impact. Having to run a FAT sorter utility every time you add, remove or modify game files is not a good user experience. Please consider adding this. Thank you.

Issues with FZ-EM256 Memory Unit?

I am using the Internal ODE with the FZ-EM256 Memory Unit. When I try to boot my Japanese FZ-1 with it plugged in boots into the Fixel Launcher (background and white borders) but displays no text.

I am booting from an exfat formated SSD.

I have not tried cleaning the Expansion port or connector yet. They look to be in good shape.

At the suggestion of Ray01 on the 3DO Discord I tested with an SD card and the SSD disconnected with the same result.

Below are pictures showing the 3DO booted up both with the Memory Unit connected and disconnected.

ODE crashes whenever advancing beyond the first "page" of directories

I'm using version 0.57 (the one installed by default) on an FZ-10 and am getting consistent crashes whenever I try to advance beyond the first page of any directory listing.

Selecting subdirectories or cue/iso files from the first page of any directory works fine. But trying to scroll beyond the bottom of the screen, or using the page advance button results in the music hanging, then a system restart.

I've uploaded a video of the problem in action here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18BbMKKfEQVesLvioKLCNtmaaCfAPNSvs/view?usp=share_link

XPORT ODE update goes wrong

It seems that the update (pressing X and select update) goes wrong and since, the ODE doesn't boot/work.
How to recover/reset/reboot the Xport?
thank you
