mac-pixel-clock-patch-v2's Issues

Signal cutout and strange pixel snow

Used V2 on OSX 10.11.4 for a 55-inch Bravia XD93

I can see 3840x2160 @30hz (but not 60hz) but the signal via mini-DisplayPort on MacBookPro Retina (Early 2015) to the TV screen cuts out occasionally (I could not determine a pattern) and when the image is up I see faint/minor pixel snow (like the GPU is stressed on overclock).

Not sure what is up with it... I didn't want to risk burning my laptop or TV so I went back to HDMI-HDMI until this issue can resolved.

The hash of IOKit was e2324202132be7b0839b1b2f8357e739

Not working on 10.11.4

After update to 10.11.4 from 10.11.3 the patch does not work anymore. Tried to unpatch and patch it again but that did also not work. SIP is disabled. I have a MacBook Air.
Edit:

These are my md5 sums:

Question on install

I downloaded the zip, and have turned off SIP.

Download the patch you need
run chmod +x XXXX-patcher.command (this makes it runable)
run the script ~/Downloads/XXXX-patcher.command if you use ~/Downloads/XXXX-patcher.command help you will get a little bit of information about the script and the functions it has. (dragging the file into the terminal window will also work)
If you wan't to request new functions for this script feel free to open an issue with the request.

I'm in idiot first of all, but when you say 'run chmod +x XXXX-patcher.command' what exactly do you mean?
Same with the next line about run the script

I see 2 files in the zip, neither are listed in the install.
IOKit-patchter.command - is that what I should open?

OS X Updates Impact on Patch

Hello,

I installed the patch on my 2016 Macbook and got my LG 27UD88 4k monitor to run at 60hz, I am very happy camper.

I have a question, will future OS X operating system updates from apple wipe out the patch or is it permanent? I'm wondering if I'll need to go through this process each time there is an OS update.

Thank you.

Success with HDMI 2 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 on a Gigabyte GTX 970

I've been following this project for a while (since version 1) and it never really worked for me, I was about to buy the Club 3D DP -> HDMI active adapter to drive this panel, but I decided to give this patch one last try and it worked like a charm, no SwitchResx needed, OSX recognises the display and enables the retina scaling menu. I'm writing this just to let you know that whatever you did recently fixed my problem. If you need any additional testing I'll leave my specs bellow:

Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce
LG 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 TV connected with a standard HDMI (High speed obviously)
OSX 10.11.5

Which script and version should I run for the Retina Macbook 12 inch 2016?
It has an Intel 515 chip in it.

Wrong $gOSVer value

Hello, Floris!

It may be wrong $gOSVer and $gDelimitation_OSVer comparison values in the recent IOKit-patcher.command script:

$ ./IOKit-patcher.command
./IOKit-patcher.command: line 14: [: 10.11: integer expression expected
SIP is enabled, this script will only work if SIP is disabled
Closing..

You use gOSVer=${gProductVer:0:5} to get current OS version (10.11.6 in my case, which gives as gOSVer = 10.11). Then you compare it with variable gDelimitation_OSVer = 12

-ge conditional operator in line 14 can test integers only. I think you should use gOSVer=${gProductVer:3:2} in line 7 of the IOKit-patcher.command script.

GTX 970 not improved with patch

I was hoping to get 3840x2160@60hz working via HDMI with this patch but it doesn't seem to work.

I used the IOKit patch because the readme stated it should enable HMDI 2.0 but that doesn't seem to be true as the output was still at 30hz and when I set the resolution to "Default for display" my tv didn't detect any input until I unpatched and rebooted. The same configuration works at 60hz on windows.

I'd be happy to help and debug this issue if you have any idea why that might be the case!

Does this patch works on MacPro2013?

I am using the MacPro 2013 and I found this patch very interesting but I am not too sure whether it works on my mac and can I use the IOKit too?

No signal?

Hi,

I have problems getting any 4k here. My setup is a late 2012 mac mini, HDMI connection to a SAMSUNG TV (HDMI 2.0) and a cable that is working with my AV receiver in 4k resolution.

When I patch the IOkit and reboot the mac is recognizing my 4k TV with a native 4k resolution, VNC is switching to 4k but the TV stays blank. I can switch back and forth between HD and UHD several times before my mac becomes unresponsive. Then, I have to boot into recovery mode and move the IOkit.bak to IOkit. The mac will not work anymore (neither TV nor VNC) before moving that file back.

Any idea? I am really not having a clue what's going on here...
Thank you!
Cheers

could not get it to work on my macbook pro retina (early 2013), please help!

I have been following your directions and even applied 2 patches but it still not working. i'll provide screenshots so you can have a better idea of what my current situation is.

Applying patch takes long

Goeiedag,

How long is patching supposed to take?
I disabled SIP and ran the script with sudo but after half an hour or so of just displaying applying patch I cancelled the command. Not smart as I had to reinstall my OS to get it to boot again. 😄

Not sure how to give you other debug information.

Bedankt voor je werk en groetjes uit Korea.

Support for AMD GPUs

I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with a Radeon R9 M295X and can't seem to get this to work. I'm using a Club3D CAC-1170 adapter to get HDMI 2.0 and a Sony X8307 TV. The same TV gets full res at 60Hz using the HDMI port on my PC.

I have applied both patches (though presumably the nvidia one will do nothing) and added a custom res to SwitchResX to get 3840x2160@60Hz. When I switch to that res, the TV claims it is receiving 1920x2160 (not sure what refresh rate).

Should the IOKit patch work for me too, or do the AMD drivers need patching?

2013 MacBook Air Intel HD5000, 4096x2160

I installed the latest version, but it doesn't seem to work for my 2015 2013 MacBook Air (Intel HD5000).

I'm trying to get it to work with LG31MU97 with a 4096x2160 resolution.

Please help!

2013 MacBook Air Intel HD5000, black screen on 3440x1440

I have this issue where the mba does not recognize monitor's native resolution or size (show's up as 30 inch instead of 34). From reading around I've seen people using 3440x1440 with this mba model and even using it with an older HD4000 model. What's more, if I boot into linux on the machine the native resolution is recognized on bootup and set automatically so I think I've all the evidence that the macbook can support this resolution.

Now after applying the patch the display settings recognizes the correct size and native resolution of the display BUT if I switch to 3440x1440 both native and external screens go combletely blank/black and I need to reboot the machine with the monitor unplugged to have the mba output video.

Any suggestions as to what the issue here might be ?

btw, I tried this on El Capitan (11.5) and later with the 11.6 beta but the outcome was the same.

My computer is restarting after screen goes to sleep

Hi! Your command lines made my system get the right resolution 2560x1440, I was desperate, but I seem to have the same problem as using this other version of fix: https://github.com/toleda/graphics_Intel_framebuffers

Do you know if that problem is from clover or from the patch? Whenever i let my computer screen go to sleep, as soon as I wake it up it restarts, it doesn't happen with DVI, I'm on HDMI right now, I can't use DVI because for some reason the cable seems to be broken and I can't get more than 1080 because te dual link of it seems to not work, I don't know if its because of the cable, the PC output or the screen input… and I have no way to check it.

I already had to cut the computer for sleeping… at least I'd like to be able to switch off the screen…

Thank you!

Simple question

Please help me out.
I am looking to uninstall this patch.

The reason is that anytime I now use the thunderbolt port to output 4k my wifi connection becomes terrible. i know this sounds ridiculous but it is literally like an on off switch. I can try loading a page and it will hang while plugged in to my external display and the minute I unplug it the webpage loads instantly.

My first step in troubleshooting is uninstalling this, because I have used my display at 4k and 52Hz in the past flawlessly without it... (http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/dell-p2715q-and-p2415q-4k-ips-displays.1816805/page-60#post-22916575)

Any other advice/ideas? This is a new problem, I used it for over a year without this issue, but recently reinstalled OS and changed miniDP cable and now have this problem.

This is a terrible problem... I need my display and wifi! One without the other sucks!

Many thanks.

Reinstalled OS - now reapplying patch doesn't work.

My patch was working fine until last week when I decided to clean install my OS on my Mac Mini 2012. Now the patch will not work and I get the dreaded black screen every time. I've wrecked my brain, I've bought replacement cables and adapters and nothing works.

Macbook 12 second gen status.

Before patch:

  • Setup 1:
    • macbook, apple media adapter (firmware Version:2.33) , hdmi --> asus PA328Q
  • Status:
    • no output
  • Setup 2:
    • macbook, dell wd 15 dock, display port --> asus PA328Q
  • Status:
    • no output

Will update soon with after patch test.

Scaled Resolutions Missing between 2160P and 1080P

Not necessarily patch related, but I'm writing to ask if anyone else is missing Scaled Resolutions on their 4k monitor? The only options that I have in "Scaled" mode are...

  • 1152x648
  • 1504x846
  • 1920x1080
  • 3840x2160

screen shot 2016-07-28 at 6 41 24 pm

The situation doesn't get any better when selecting [Alt] + Scaled.

Has anyone else run into this? I'm using a Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro 13" with an LG 27UD68 monitor.

After I run the nvidia patch the md5's are the same.
NVDAGK100HalWeb: c24068230334f93c43ddca619e4d95f9

However, there is several _similar _ patterns. Is it possible for me to alter the patch to work with the web drivers?

Hi! I have got MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016) 10.11.6 and LG 27UD88 4K monitor.
I did everything according to instructions, the monitor shows 60 Hz when connected via cable USB-C, but periodically lost the connection to the monitor. After such an interruption is either restored or monitor goes into standby mode. What could be the problem?

This is the response i get from NVIDIA.command md5

I have installed both scripts, but i am still getting only 30Hz as an option.
I have verified that my machine can output 4k@60Hz, because when i go to bootcamp, i am getting 60Hz no problem...

This is the full output of my commands
