Questions :)

Should we consider adding 3.3V LDO (eg MCP1700) to allow user to connect a higher voltage supply such as 5V? And/or add protection/translation FETs on the I2C lines?

Just to make it a bit more "idiot proof" and friendly easy user experience for beginners.

What is the motivation behind the particular chip chosen? Is it cheap? (I'm not sure where you're sourcing it from.) MPL3115A2 (digi-key MPL3115A2-ND) is another cheap candidate.
