What is Specter?

Specter is a prototype cryptocurrency designed to help people learn about Blockchain Technology. It is entirely open source and is developed using Python 2.7.

Python 3 will be supported likely after a Version 1.0 is developed. A Python 3 branch is already setup.

pip install -r requirements.txt

What makes Specter unique as a cryptocurrency?: Unlike most cryptocurrencies, Specter isn't trying to become an ICO or get sold on an exchange. Instead, Specter is a research project focused on overcoming the technical challenges of Blockchain technology.

specter's Issues

Critical Flaw

While working on the project I managed to introduce a critical flaw in the threading of the master branch. I will work on fixing it as I have time. If you install Specter before I get a chance to fix it, please understand it will be broken.

Apply ANSI Escape Colors To Print Statements

This is a good issue for beginners! There are some print statements in the code, particularly in the multiwallet, wallet, webserver, blockchain classes. I have some examples in the wallet class, but I would appreciate it if you went into some of those classes and added ANSI escape colors to some of the print statements that need them. For example, if you find a print statement that is telling the user something was successful, change it to be "print OK + 'Words go here' + END".

This would help me a ton and would be a great first step for a beginner. :) I'm also willing to help if you need it, feel free to comment.

Question: How does mining work?

I'm trying set this project up on my end. I got it running but confused on how to generate/mine tokens.
Can anyone offer any insight?
