Mobbler 0.2: data speed and consumption

Hi

I'm starting to use mobbler 0.2 as an internet radio player and I'm
concerned by the data consumption.

My early tests reflect about 1MB/minute. That is, listen to internet radio
for 60 minutes and your connection will donwload 60MB.

Currently I'm listening to the radio throug wifi. The speed is about 20KB/s
for download and about 0.5KB/s for upload and the audio is quite right,
with just some minor stops (say, every 5 minutes).

Are these figures similaar for you?

mobbler crashes when trying to connect

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Enter correct login information
2. Try to connect to las.fm
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
After selecting the access point, the software tries to connect for couple
of seconds and exits after that. I think I should see "connected" status in
the upper righthand corner of the screen. Instead I see the application
crashing.

Panic when skiping track after losing data connection

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect and start a radio station
2. Lose data connection and wait for a data connection error
3. Press skip track

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Nothing should happen, but mobbler panics and then it is not possible open
it again.

mobbler has to be uninstalled and installed again to start working again.

Please use labels and text to provide additional information.

The only reason I can think of for why mobbler will not open again is that
when it panics on pressing next track, it is leaving the saved tracks queue
file in a bad state, which means it panics when it tries to read from it
when it is opened again.

Mobbler does not connect

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. "Connect to Last.fm"
2. I choose my wireless access point, which works for anything else
3. "There is an error with your data connection" pops up within less than a
second after choosing access point.

Choosing my phone provider, it is trying for a couple of minutes to get a
connection, but ends up with #3 in the end (that would also cost money)
WLAN is WPA2 encrypted, but works with anything else on the phone.

This is on an updated Nokia N82, last version of Mobbler.

I listen to a bunch of podcasts with the Nokia podcast app and mobbler

Any ways to exclude these? They clutter up my last.fm listings.

support for LCG Jukebox/other players

it would be very nice if you were able to make this player supported...(i

i don't know how this stuff works (so i can't consider how difficult it
is) but i really dislike built-in player

1. Launch Mobbler

almost daily now requiring a re-install which fixes this issue until the
next time it fails to run.

2. Enter username and password
3. Options -> Connect to Last.fm

Standby status/indication icon

It would be great if mobbler had a status bar icon to signal that it is
open, maybe in a similar way as the Jaiku app does, since 3rd party apps
can't access the standard status bar icon.

Another cool feature to have would be auto-start.

A list of preferred access points would be useful too, such as when the app
starts, it tries to connect via the first access point (wifi) than if it
can't find the network (like in a outside environment) it tries to connect
via gprs/edge/etc... This should be only an option, so if the user is
paying by the kb, he can choose to disallow all data connections and only
leave his wifi networks.

And at last, the possibility of bringing mobbler to the front, while
listening to music, it said what track is it currently scrobbling and gave
you the possibility of Love/Ban/Tag/Recommend it

Status text

Hi

This is a request feature.

Related to the application scrobbling status, version 0.1.11 now shows the
following status texts:

(1) "offline", as soon as the aplication starts
(2) "scrobbling", as soon as the application connects to last.fm
(3) "n tracks scrobbled", as soon as the application goes online after
having recorded tracks offline

I think the following status texts are a bit clearer:

(1) "scrobbling offline", as soon as mobbler starts
(2) "scrobbling online", as soon as the mobbler connects to last.fm
(3) "n tracks sent to last.fm", as soon as mobbler goes online after
having recorded tracks offline

I think these names are clearer because mobbler _always_ scrobbles,
offline or online.

Negative sent tracks count

* Listen to music off-line to get mobbler queue them
* mobbler shows the "N tracks queued" text
* Connect to Internet to send the tracks to last.fm
* mobbler shows "N tracks scrobbled" and then it shows "-N tracks queued"

That is, the status text can sometimes show negative values for the queued
tracks. The scrobbled tracks are correctly sent to last.fm.

I'm using mobbler 0.1.17 on my Nokia N81.

Crash Requires Uninstall/Reinstall

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run mobbler and listen to music for random length of time
2. Connect to Wifi
3. Mobbler crashes and will not start without an uninstall, reinstall.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
If mobbler crashes, I expect it to start fine next time it is run.
Occcasional crashes have to be expected; having the install corrupted
should not happen.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.2.0 on N95 8GB (firmware 10.0.21).

Please provide any additional information below.

Mobbler worked fine for the first 2 days. Last night, it crashed and
required reinstall. Today, it lost 45 songs using the builtin music
player, with mobbler in the background...I got home, connected to last.fm
with mobbler and mobbler crashed. Again, it will not open.

Could this just be a simple corrupted file somewhere? It is odd that
mobbler will never restart after it crashes once, even after restarting
the phone.

In any case, it is a wonderful little application.

Make the scrobbling time configurable

Hi

Now mobbler scrobbles a track when has been played more than 50% or 4
minutes.

I think it would be nice if this was configurable from. I like to scrobble
a track only if it has been totally played.

Crash on reconnect

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to a wifi hotspot and subsequently leave the range of the router
2. scrobble some tracks
3. Connect to a different wifi hotspot

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect the program to correctly connect to the new hotspot and send
the queued tracks to last.fm. Instead mobbler crashes and returns the phone
to the active standby.
I generally find that this happens when I travel home from work. At work my
phone is connected to the local wifi whilst I'm listening to music. Then
when I leave at the end of the day I sometimes get home to find that
mobbler has shut down on me, but if it hasn't it does when it tries to
connect to my home wifi. Reloading mobbler is fine though. I'm not entirely
sure if the loss of connection, change of hotspot or a combination of both
is the problem, but I'll try and get some more reproducible results for you.

Connect periodically instead of continuously

This is a feature request...

I think that having mobbler connected continously will impact battery life.
I would like an option to connect periodically, say every half hour, and
only if there are tracks queued to scrobble.

Album art

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start mobbler
1. Start playing music offline on the S60 music player

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install mobbler v0.2.0
2. Start mobbler from applications list.
3. Repeat 2-3 infinitly.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see the mobbler interface. Instead it looks like it attempts
to start the application but fails with no error message. For a fraction
of a second it leaves the application list, but immediately returns to the
list, no error messages.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, both on the
internal phone memory and on a memory card. Installation is successfull in

Scrobbled tracks counter

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Play tracks off-line (say, N tracks)
2. Connect to last.fm and wait for the tracks to be sent and the text "N

3. Disconnect from last.fm
4. Don't restart mobbler and continue playing tracks off-line (say, M tracks)
5. Connect again to last.fm and wait for the new tracks to be sent

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the text "M tracks scrobbled" to show, but instead I see the text
"N+M tracks scrobbled". That is, it seems mobbler does not clear the track
count after succesfully sending the tracks to last.fm. However, the "M

v0.2.1 - N73ME - Last.fm connection drops after a while

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to Last.fm.
2. Select access point.
3. Start streaming.
4. Wait for end of song.
5. Goto 1 and repeat.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Song should get scrobbled and next song should start. Instead error
message "There is an error with your data connection."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
mobbler v0.2.1 on a Nokia N73 Music Edition, S60 3rd generation
(V4.0736.3.2.1, 04-09-2007, RM-133).

Please provide any additional information below.
It does not happen every time, while I was attempting to reproduce the bug
it managed to scrobble and start the next song once before it occured
again at the end of the new song.

It also occurs if you reconnect to Last.fm and then wait a while before
starting the station anew, nothing will happen for a while (no song) and
then the same error message pops up.

If I was to hazard a guess, I think it might be that after a period of no
network activity the connection "dies". For instance if the time, after a
song has finished buffering and before it finishes playing and scrobbles,
is too long. Or, as mentioned above, waiting a while after having
connected to Last.fm before starting the station.

It might be that mobbler expects the connection to remain open and tries
to use the same one, but Last.fm closes it on its end after a while of
inactivity?

I will do some more testing after work tomorrow and see if I can determine
if there is a specific length of time before the connection dies.

2. Disconnect from last.fm

1. start mobbler, connects fine.
2. hold down the menu key to access task manager
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect to see some kind of mobbler icon, stand by icon, and the
icons other applications I have running. Instead I see no mobbler icon, but
I see all the other icons. When trying to access the other programs, there
may be that after choosing "stand by" it switches to music player or any
other application that's open. And behavior this seems quite random.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.1.15, Phone is Nokia E61 with firmware 3.0633.09.04 RM-89

Please provide any additional information below.
To clarify, mobbler mixes the application icons in the task manager in such
a way that any icon can refer to any application currently open.

autostart

Hi,

It would be very good if Mobbler could have an autostart on phone boot option.

Code source not available

According to mobbler project page, mobbler is under GPLv2 license but
source code is not available anywhere (not in svn nor in tarball).

Showing the queued tracks

Hi

This is a request feature.

Would it be possible to see the queued tracks that mobbler has recorded
when offline?

That is, version 0.1.11 says "n tracks queued" in the status text when
offline, but it would be nice if there was an option to show the exact n
tracks queued (with title, playing date and time)
