Installation

No, you don't need this!

Available since macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Apple has built-in a lock screen shortcut: Command-Control-Q.

Also available under Apple menu => Lock Screen.

For macOS 10.13 High Sierra and later

Download a pre-built .dmg at releases section, or build by yourself:

1. Extract the downloaded master zip
2. Build the Lock Screen.app by double clicking the build.command script
3. Copy the Lock Screen.app file in the dist directory to anywhere you'd like (Applications directory preferred)

For macOS 10.12 Sierra and earlier

Unsupported! Please refer to pre-macos-hs branch for more information.

Acknowledgments

gaomd/lock-screen-app was originally forked from windgazer's WALS repository, only kept lock screen parts with improvements.

Doesn't work if display is sleeping

Thank you for this simple app! It's fantastic. I've run into what I hope is a simple issue: It doesn't work if the display is sleeping.

Try this in Applescript, and you'll see what I mean:

run application "Lock Screen"

The screen doesn't lock.

All methods are deprecated in high Sierra

Just a quick note, as I realised you've based your code on my solution:
None of the methods are applicable to OSX High Sierra (10.13).

However, there's an up-side. Apple finally woke up, locking screen is now available as ctrl-meta-Q (or under the 'apple' menu...)

Non-focusable windows instead of locked screen

Under certain conditions, after execute Lock Screensaver.app, the screen won't lock, instead it remains unlocked, with non-focusable windows, menu, input fields, etc.

Temporary Workaround

Execute Lock Screensaver.app again (by navigating to it from Finder with repeated Right Click => Open).
