Catch exceptions when truncating file

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start monitoring a file in which the original app has exclusive access
2. Click the erase button

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

An alert should inform the user truncate was not possible.  instead an
error occurs and the application terminates

Occasional crash when truncating the file being monitored

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start monitoring a file
2. Open the file in another program (notepad)
3. Erase all contents of the file and save

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

LogFileMonitor should just clear the screen, but on occasion it crashes
with a null reference.
