Cannot manually install extension in Caja 1.20.2

I am on Linux Mint 19.1 MATE 64-bit.
I have followed the instructions on 'how to manually install a python extension', for the installation of the manually-downloaded kdiff3-compare.py. I would now expect this extension to show up in Caja's Preferences->Extensions, but it doesn't.
(I notice, however, that a file kdiff3-compare.pyc gets created automatically.)

caja extensions not installing/working on linux mint mate version 20.x

It appears that the caja extensions no longer operate on linux mint 20 or mint 20.1 mate edition.
The .deb won't install due to a missing dependency and when I installed the meld extension manually, it didn't seem to integrate into caja.

I don't think that this is an issue on your side though... sure, they use python3 and gtk3 now, but why would then the python 2.x plugins still work ?

Would be nice if you could port nautilus-pyextensions to python3 though.
