glot-images's Introduction

glot-images

Overview

glot-images are the docker images used by glot.io to run code. The images are built using nix which are pinned to a specific nixpkgs commit to create reproducible images. See the overview on how everything is connected.

Code runner

The code-runner is installed in each image which writes the files inside the container, compiles and runs the code and returns the result as a json payload.

Images

Prebuilt images can be found on Docker Hub. (If nix is unfamiliar you can find some old examples using Dockerfile here)

Example

echo '{
  "language": "javascript",
  "files": [{
    "name": "main.js",
    "content": "console.log(\"Hello World!\");"
  }]
}' | docker run --rm -i --read-only --tmpfs /tmp:rw,noexec,nosuid,size=65536k --tmpfs /home/glot:rw,exec,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,size=131072k -u glot -w /home/glot glot/javascript:latest
Result
{"stdout":"Hello World!\n","stderr":"","error":""}

glot-images's Issues

Extension of image deps for JavaScript

Hi! Great project. Is there any way to add npm packages [jest, axios] to javascript image, specifically to nix build config for javascript? I am trying to create my own images, due to the absence of some packages in the base images and use them with the code-runner.

Bump nixpkgs

Hello,

previously, nixpkgs has been bumped roughly after a year. Now, the latest bump happened around March 2022. Is there anything that forces the images to stick with that version? If not then please consider bumping again.

Thank you.

Making HTTP request from language container

Hi, thanks for great work. I am having issue with making HTTP requests from inside of a programming language container, is it possible? For instance, I am trying to make plain request with Python:

# Request
import urllib.request

with urllib.request.urlopen('http://python.org/') as response:
    html = response.read()

# Error
urllib.error.URLError: <urlopen error [Errno -2] Name or service not known>
