The problem is is that the second terminator command is querying dbus to see if there are any running instances of terminator running, and if there are, they run with that config, rather than the config you specified on the command line. To get this to work you should run any subsequent terminator commands with terminator -u --config $config_file
. Or alternately, you should ensure that all your config files have "Enable DBUS" unchecked.
