partial-json-parser

Parse complete JavaScript objects from partial JSON strings.

Description

Incomplete JSON strings will be parsed to its nearest complete object.

Input: { "name": { "first": "ind", "last": "go

Output: { "name": { "first": "ind" } }

Installation

From the CLI:

npm install --save partial-json-parser

From JavaScript:

var partialParse = require('partial-json-parser');
var output = partialParse('{"key": "value"');

Alternatively, you can directly use the script in the browser with a script tag.

partial-json-parser's Issues

ES5 -> ES6 in a patch version

1.0.2 supported ES5, 1.0.3 does not.

You may want to update at least the minor version but ideally the major, as this is a breaking change for projects still on ES5.

Does not handle strings with escaped quotes

For example, trying to parse the valid (complete) JSON string

> partialParse('{"my_json_value":"{\\"a\\": 1}"}')

will throw an Error: Invalid token

While JSON.parse will succeed:

> JSON.parse('{"my_json_value":"{\\"a\\": 1}"}')
{my_json_value: "{"a": 1}"}

Termination is not guaranteed

Hi! Thanks for writing this, a PR adding support for partial JSON import into speedscope was opened with this repository: jlfwong/speedscope#202, but I had to revert the PR because partial-json-parser doesn't guarantee termination.

Reproduction:

> require('partial-json-parser/package.json').version
'1.1.1'
> var partialParse = require('partial-json-parser');
undefined
> partialParse('`')

At this point the code hangs.
