Can't add multiple emails with 'add_list_emails'

SendGrid's Marketing Emails API allows you to add multiple email addresses to a recipient list with the following call (example from SendGrid website):

https://sendgrid.com/api/newsletter/lists/email/add.json?api_user=your_sendgrid_username&api_key=your_sendgrid_password&list=my_list&data[]={"email":"[email protected]","name":"contactName1"}&data[]={"email":"[email protected]","name":"contactName2"}

Each email address has to be added as an element of an array: 'data'. If the elements of the array are indexed in the URL e.g. 'data[1]=...' the call fails.

Due to implementing CodeIgniter REST Client Library (and therefore cURL) URL parameter queries are created using the 'http_build_query' function.

By default this function indexes arrays when adding them as query parameters making it impossible to add multiple email addresses to a list through the 'add_list_emails' function.
