overlay's Issues

Wrong Genpatches in ck-sources-3.18.4

Hi! Thanks for the New version of the kernel. However, you put the wrong genpatches on that version. In the ebuild, the line says:

K_GENPATCHES_VER="5"

But it must be:

K_GENPATCHES_VER="6"

Please, fix that.

Thanks.

sys-kernel/ck-sources should advertise upstream compatibility

Kolivas announced on 16th Jan 2017:

I've fallen back to only syncing up with major releases. I'm still on 4.9.0-ck1 myself.

Source: ck-hack.blogspot.de

As the overlay at the time of writing provides ck-sources-4.9.1, 4.9.2, 4.9.3 and 4.9.4, these ebuilds should probably display a post-install message that minor releases are currently not supported by upstream.

net-misc/bitmask_client-0.9.1 file collision during install phase

I tried installing bitmask_client-0.9.1 with your ebuild and I'm getting a collision with sys-apps/iproute2-4.3.0 because both packages seem to claim /sbin/ip. Is this something you encountered or that can be resolved? My apologies for the cross-post from the Gentoo bug tracker.

re: 367.35 driver and 4.7.4-ck

Hi again, I've replaced my legacy GPU with a Fermi card [GTX 480] and would like to use your 367.35 nvidia-drivers [because I know you have the right patches for the ck-sources].

I've built the module successfully against the 4.7.4-ck kernel, but it seems to have this [rather old] bug:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=564096

It also seems not to allow me to set the fan speed using the following in .xinitrc:

[this sets nvidia thermal applet to 'on', and fan control to 'x'%]
nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1
nvidia-settings -a [fan:0]/GPUCurrentFanSpeed=75

The first line is allowed, but the second one complains about some read-only permissions:

ERROR: The attribute 'GPUCurrentFanSpeed' specified in assignment '[fan:0]/GPUCurrentFanSpeed=90' cannot be assigned (it is a read-only attribute)

I know this isn't a support channel, but could you advise me whether I'm dealing with a kernel or a driver problem? Both of the above are deal-breakers for me, so if I can't solve them I'm stuck on the legacy driver, even though I don't have legacy hardware anymore.

Thanks for any advice you might have.

ck-sources-4.7.0 kernel panic

Harold, thank you for your work on ck-sources. I have been using -ck for a long time, and your overlay for some months now, since the Gentoo support has been thin at best.

Copying over my .config from 4.6.4 in your overlay, running 'make oldconfig', accepting the defaults for the dozen or so new items, building and a reboot results in a panic.

As a check, I emerged 4.6.5, and did the same thing [of course, no new config items] with no problem. The 4.6.5 kernel boots fine.

I see this item in Con's blog:
http://ck-hack.blogspot.com.au/2016/07/bfs-0472-linux-47-ck1.html
I'm not a coder, but after looking at the source, I think the source appears to be patched correctly already. As you see in the blog, one user stated that this patch fixed his kernel panic issue.

Apparently one or more of the new items is causing this? Or am I missing something bigger in the 4.6 - 4.7 transition? Or is it perhaps the change from BFS-0.470 to BFS-0.472?

The 'secretstorage' distribution was not found and is required by keyring

I'm not sure if this is something I did or not, but I tried starting bitmask today (haven't used it in about a month or two) and it failed, error output below:
andrew@Andrew-Gentoo ~ $ bitmask --verbose Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python-exec/python2.7/bitmask", line 5, in <module> from pkg_resources import load_entry_point File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py", line 2900, in <module> @_call_aside File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py", line 2886, in _call_aside f(*args, **kwargs) File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py", line 2913, in _initialize_master_working_set working_set = WorkingSet._build_master() File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py", line 635, in _build_master ws.require(__requires__) File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py", line 942, in require needed = self.resolve(parse_requirements(requirements)) File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py", line 829, in resolve raise DistributionNotFound(req, requirers) pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: The 'secretstorage' distribution was not found and is required by keyring

A quick google search later, I tried to install the secretstorage python module using pip (since I can't find it in portage). However this module wants to be installed using pip as root, which apparently isn't a good idea according to the gentoo wik. Anyway, it seems bitmask (0.9.1) is missing a dependency. I also tried version 0.9.1-r1 which gave the same error.

bitmask-overlay

I've moved your bitmask related ebuilds into a dedicated overlay and added the necessary dependencies.

I've started working on bitmask/leapcode related ebuilds some time ago and did not yet merge all my changes. It's still work in progress.

New kernel versions are released

Hi!

In Gentoo Sources, new kernel versions appeared: 3.17.8 and 3.18.2. So please, upgrade those ebuilds. Gentoo patches are also available.

Thanks.

Slotting Kernels (ck-sources ebuilds)

Hi!

As a suggestion, a kernel-related ebuild must be slotted. So please, add this:

SLOT="${PV}"

in the ck-sources ebuilds. Right between the line of the IUSE, and the homepage.

Thanks.

Missing use flag: bundled dependency when emerging bitmask_client

When trying to emerge bitmask_client, emerge complains about missing use flag bundled in dev-python/pyzmq . This use flag is indeed missing in the pyzmq package from the gentoo repository, it was present before synchronizing (in the package with the same name from your overlay).

Andrew-Gentoo ~ # emerge -p bitmask_client

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "dev-python/pyzmq[bundled,python_targets_python2_7(-)?,-python_single_target_python2_7(-)]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:

  • dev-python/pyzmq-14.4.1::gentoo (Missing IUSE: bundled)
    (dependency required by "net-misc/bitmask_client-0.7.0_rc6::hnaparst" [ebuild])
    (dependency required by "bitmask_client" [argument])
